I've got some nasty popping going in the rear of my Jeep Wrangler! Found that the rear differential is on its way out. Glad I had another one for a quick swap!

I have a 92 yj and a 99 f150 with 8.8 and from what I have watched I should be able to swap both front and rear axle's I'm just looking for some sort of a list I guess of things to do and pay close attention to as I'm swapping out. Would love to drive there and enjoy the company and assistance in swapping these out but of course I live in Indiana. I really enjoy your video's keep up the good work and information as well as keeping it old school/original and the Mods and upgrades.

Noticed that car wash was closed a few weeks ago. I usually go to Gallatin car wash over by Triple Creek Park

You don’t need to remove the drive shaft just don’t engage 4x4 the driveshaft won’t spin since it’s freewheeling from the transfer in 2hi and freewheeling from the axle bc of the cad but if you deleted the cad then it still freewheels from the transfer so you’re still fine if you don’t remove the drive shaft
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you are correct. But, I have airhead moments soo .. yea making sure I didnt do something not so smart :-) . Yep, I also have the CAD permanently locked in. Its just until I get around to rebuilding the other front diff and swapping them out. Thanks for dropping by!! Have a great day!

Those Dana 35's aint much!! I scored an 8.8 a couple of weeks ago for $50. It got 3:73 with the Limited Slip Carrier in it PLUS rear disc brakes complete! I would have preferred the 4:10 gear, but for $50 LSD & complete rear disc .... SOLD!!

I was told about a bone stock XJ that I'm really considering getting. Thought about possibly making a drivable trail rig out of it. I'd like to find a 4cyl YJ for really cheap to so a V8 swap on.

Hey man I really enjoy all your videos and how you going to depth with fixing things on a YJ which I have an 88 I recently put a V8 in it I want to change out the rear but need help finding out what would bolt up to it work without doing a lot of cutting and welding I'm not in a rock crawling mud riding just a basic all around family vehicle camping etc what do you suggest please help
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 3 жыл бұрын
To comfortably live behind that V8 getting an 8.8 out of a 1995 and up Ford Explorer. It will involve some welding and light fabrication. Then making sure your front and rear gear ratios match. Anything less you will eventually just be doing it all over again.

@@Poweraddicts sorry so late what would you suggest putting in the front all this is new to me on gearing I'm good with engines what would you suggest I still have Dana 30 front Dana 35 rear MP 231 transfer case bolted to the transmission but aftermarket bell housing from advanced adapters connected to the V8 so all in all help is definitely needed I do like the 8.8 I saw your video there so what should I do about the front and with everything else be comfortable enough to leave in there for now to build up budget again financially

Good job! Not rear end related but , on your 2,5, have you ever checked compression, and if yes, what was the average readings. Thanks and keep the videos coming.

Dude not to be an ass but your t-case doesn’t turn different speeds the main bad thing about different gears is don’t run a higher gear in the back because it will out drive the front mud dragsters will gear higher in the front to help with control on real high horsepower rides
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you are absolutely right. I pulled my front driveshaft out to make sure I didn't blow up the t-case by forgetting and locking it in 4 wheel drive. My main driver ate the bearings in the rear diff. I needed another diff ASAP!! The rig I pulled it from was getting a 8.8 installed (it now has) so it became the donor to get my daily back on its feet. I swap in the front diff from the donor rig to get my gears to match. I know about making sure gears match, but it does help others to read the comments to learn from. Thanks! Good call!!

Serious question: with xfering rear axles like that, is there a direct compatible rear axle with disk breaks that can go on one of the old YJ's?
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 3 жыл бұрын
Direct compatible? No. Ford 8.8 out of a 1995 or newer Explorer is close but still requires some light fabrication and welding.
@DanCBoyle

@@Poweraddicts if ever that is somthing you guys were interested in tackling, I would love to see it. You do a good walkthrough, gloss over the repetitive stuff and hit the target where it's critical. I'm very much on board doing this with my 91 Renegade. Have seen no videos or reference on it though. Are there inherent issues; saftey, function or otherwise?. Or do correctly, solid as you like?
