I've been camouflaging my 42ft narrowboat and loving it! I'm on the 2nd colour. I used a paint spray machine on the base coat and the pattern I'm doing with a paint brush and small roller. My patches are huge compared to yours. You did a great job on your jeep.

@@randomactsofdave7435 any tips before doing this such as prep work,materials,and the part of the video you cut out?
@randomactsofdave74353 жыл бұрын
I sanded everything just enough to scuff the original paint. I think I used 220 grit on my palm sander. I wiped everything down with xylene (cause I had some) but rubbing alcohol or possibly Windex would be ok. Anything bare metal should get a shot of primer. I used poster board from the dollar store as my stencils and plain brown gift wrap as my masking material. Newspaper or something would work as well. Prepare do go through a few rolls of tape. I looked at a camo pattern I liked, tried drawing out similar shapes and cutting them out of the poster board with a Sharp blade. I taped 2 posters together to make the shapes. I feel it would have been easier if i had started by painting larger shapes at first. Maybe tape 3 or 4 poster boards together for the first layer. Tape a few shapes down and spray one color. Let it dry move the shapes around and spray the next color. The missing footage was an unfortunate result of an amazon special camera that corrupted my files. It was mostly footage of more masking, taping, painting and drying. I honestly had no idea what I was doing when I started. If you come at it with nothing to loose you will loose nothing. My backup plan was to go back to flat black if i didn't like it. Otherwise I hope it works out for ya if you do try. Any other questions feel free to ask. Cheers!

@@randomactsofdave7435 I’m always down for vehicular content. Especially 4x4 stuff. I’m sorry to hear your life got difficult. I hope you’re in a better place right now. I certainly don’t mean to sound as though I’m complaining about no content, I was just hoping you hadn’t decided to stop entirely. Glad you have plans to continue. You have to take care of you and yours first, however. I totally understand. Again, I hope you’re in a better place now.

Thank you for the kind words. It's a lot of work trying to figure out ones self. It's much easier just working on Jeeps 🤣. The journey here has been bumpy but I can't wait for spring to get started on some projects! Along with my YJ I also have an XJ I will be trying to bring back. Actually I have 2 XJs that are to become one. No promises on how much content I'll put out but there will be something coming in the next bit. Cheers!

Your either a pro video maker or a novice video making interesting and helpful content. I like helpful content. I Plasti dipped my ute camo 5 years ago but had to respray black as it takes a beating in the Aussie sun. It's about time to camo spray it again. I should do a video.
@randomactsofdave74353 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the positive feedback! It took a friend of mine that does KZbin videos to convince me to try. I say go for it and I'd love to see it. If the hot Aussie sun is fading out the paint maybe try the dessert camo. Beiges and browns don't fade as easy and would look minnnnt👌
@randomactsofdave74353 жыл бұрын
Also I know plasti dip overall fades terrible in the sun. The clear coat I used is supposed to be UV resistant so it should last longer with paint. I will admit I'd love to see a snow camo ute tearing up the outback!
@RuffKutz3 жыл бұрын
It took a few years for it to fade. Tan black brown and green. The tan almost became beige lol. This time will be tan brown black. Skipping the green as it didn't really make sense in our bush. I will at least do a walk around when i finish and post. Hopefully in the next few weeks. Just waiting on few more cans. My isuzu Dmax was brand new when i plasti dipped it so the original paint is still in great shape.

Man that’s a great job I know it’s hard I did a Chevy tracker in a weed camo look prey darn good but I’m been wanting a snow camo and came across ur vid, tell me how did u come up with ur stencils???
@randomactsofdave74354 жыл бұрын
Thanks a bunch. I really wasn't sure how it was going to come out when I started. My stencils were just two standard posters boards from a dollar store taped together. As for the pattern, I had a photo of a basic snow camo and just tried to draw the individual shapes just larger. I drew it in pencil on the poster board so I could erase and change. Once satisfied I just used a utility knife to cut out the middles. I made about 10 different sizes and shapes. When painting I learned not to overlap the patterns too much. I'll also add the final product will really depend on what you used as your base color. I was going for a darker "urban" snow camo . If you intend on going for a brighter shade start with either grey or white as a base. The white blotches were the hardest to paint over the dark base. I'm just rambling now so if you want any more detail or any other questions, feel free to ask. Cheers
@mikeball92704 жыл бұрын
Ya I think I’ll do the white base first then make pattern stencils with black, gray and flat black my wheels I’ll post on here or email ya the finished product
