Well the labor market will work itself out, Derek is a bit of an outlier. Not every blue collar worker becomes a KZbin "influencer". The reality is every blue collar worker out there wishes better for their kids. Not one guy I work with says "I hope my kids end up here". Many of my colleagues have had hip and or knee replacements and most of us are, or will be, deaf. So what you see here isn't representative of the reality of blue collar work.

The small black dot on the top of an aerosol can, located under the spray tip, indicates the direction of the can's internal dip tube. To use the spray paint until the can is empty, you can: Rotate the spray tip so it lines up with the dot Tilt the can slightly so the dot faces down Point the nozzle toward the dot There is a small black mark near the top of the canister right under the spray tip. The spot corresponds to the direction at which the dip tube inside the can is pointed. Rotate the spray tip to align with the black mark on the can top and tilt it slightly so that the mark faces downward. The dot marks the bottom of the can's curved straw, which runs down the can's edge. When the nozzle is pointed at the dot, the contents flow to the end of the straw, allowing you to use as much of the product as possible.
@aminorityofone8 ай бұрын

Last year of high school, early 80’s, bought a ‘62 Baja Bug. Painted the whole thing same way. Used 32 cans of rust olium primer, paint and clear. Shiny silver for the body and med gray for the fenders and hood dimples. Thx for the flashback!

Derek you need a “If you can see the lines, YOU’RE too close. Back up!!” T-shirt or bumper sticker.

*Pro tip for using rattle cans:* The biggest drawback of rattle cans is the tendency to "orange peel". An easy cheat to greatly minimize this is *_soak the cans in hot water_* before use. This will really help reduce the orange peel effect as well as helps keep the nozzle from clogging/spitting so easily. For obvious reasons make sure you dry the cans with a towel so you don't drip water on your surface. While this helps a lot with improving results with paint, it makes a _massive_ difference with thicker coatings like primer and Plasti Dip. Try it just once and you'll never use room temperature rattle cans again. Especially if it's cold when you're spray painting.

@@davidcooper8797 Then it's not mixed properly or straight up bad paint/bad nozzle. I've been doing it for decades and it works, but it's not going to magically fix a garbage can of paint.

@@davidcooper8797 Not everyone is good at spray painting to be fair. I've applied hundreds of gallons of lacquer so I'm more experienced than most on knowing exactly how heavy to spray it and how much to overlap.

100% agree. His videos gave me the motivation to spend some quality time out in the shed. Got one car warranted and registered (it's a New Zealand thing) and back driving around. Couple of more cars to go now. Top bloke, thanks Derek.

Don't worry about Caprice's prints on the paint. In years to come, you'll look at those prints and remember her. 30 years ago our flat-coat retriever walked through some wet concrete in the back yard and my wife took a twig and wrote Bella's name and the date. Today, they're a precious reminder of a very dear dog. Never worry about anything that makes fond memories. Beautiful job on the Jeep and Jeeps need that home-made character. Well done!

Nice work Derek as always! Please keep a fella's lungs healthy by wearing a respirator when painting and clearing as there are some harmful chemicals involved that over time can take their toll.

One tip form me regarding storage of hardware. I usually keep empty oil jugs/cans/bottles and cut them in half. That way you get a nice storage pot and the other half is a decent funnel.

Derrick I have to fix a lot of grand caravan rust up here In Canada . I started using Mopar paint its exact color . There paint pens are very nice it’s like a large sharpie ,and the rattle cans don’t spit all over. One of my favourite things to do is color sand and polish . Good enough for who it’s for anyways.

For a basketcase, I love the way this turned out. In fact, I would say this is probably my favorite video of yours to date, because it really did turn into a daily driver. Love it. I'd finish up the doors and do general upkeep and cosmetics, otherwise I wouldn't touch it. It's perfect. Maybe do a soft top? I never grew up with parents teaching me things in the garage. Derek is like my internet dad teaching me how to do basic automotive things, which I never got. Thanks for all your efforts on these videos. I genuinely learn something every time I watch.
