Thanks for this helpful video, somebody tried to rip my soft top off by using a pry-bar or something above the windshield. They ripped the screws which held the front retainer into the windshield frame, right out of the frame. This shows me what I needed to know in order to remove the top and attempt to re-install the front retainer.

Have fun with that YJ! I was fortunate enough to get back to work before fall and while it is a blessing in disguise, I've been working so much as the pandemic ends and the economy recovers that I hardly have time to create new videos. It's a tough balance as it is and now with 60 hr work weeks it's really hard to find that motivation to keep making content. I love the '95s for a couple of reasons - better frame more resilient to rot, fuel injection, super durable 4.0L engine, etc.

Hey Ania! Yes, I went with a Grant steering wheel, but sort of wish I had the original steering wheel. I like the Grant but it is a smaller diameter, which can make it look a little funny. Also, the chrome part of the steering wheel reflects the sun when the top is off so sometimes you get a straight shot of sunlight to the eyes. I suppose I could always go back 😎. Enjoy that Jeep - they're great for the soul!

That was a Smittybilt soft top with the factory hardware. So, essentially the process is the same for OEM or any top that uses the factory hardware.

Hey Derek! Sorry for the delay in replying. I do not have an install video; however, if you reverse the steps it will get you in a close enough order to get it back on. I will say, though, if it is a Bestop that doesn't use the factory hardware, there will be differences (not drastic but still different) than what I have here.

@@GearTubeTV thanks for your reply. Do you have any tips for connecting LED light strips so that they come on the same time as the Instrument panel? Do I need to find the hot wire that goes into the dimmer switch for the panel and tie into that? If so, then how do I identify the hot wire?

I'm thinking about trading my hard top for a soft top, only thing I'm concerned about is its ability to hold heat in winter. What is yalls experience with it? I know yj heaters are excellent and mine is but still.

I've never had a hard top Jeep to be honest, so I don't have much to make a comparison with. What I do know is I've never felt "cold" in the winter with a soft top. Sure there may be a draft by your doors but nothing has ever resulted in feeling physically cold. With the soft top, in temps below freezing I recommend letting it warm up just like the old days of letting cars come up to temp. The reason is not only because you want some warmth in it when you get in, but also because plastic windows get very fragile in frigid cold temperatures. By warming up the Jeep and building heat inside the cab, you'll also heat up the windows a little bit so there isn't as much risk. Reality is I was brushing snow off one year and slipped on an icy spot resulting in jamming the brush into a window and it cracked. So, with a good working heater core and blower, I've never had an issue in winter with cold.

Does a tTJ soft top fit a YJ

Sorry for the delay - no, a TJ soft top has a different attachment mechanism for the top of the windshield frame, the door surrounds are different, and the bow assemblies are different.

How’s the smittybilt soft top? I just got a 93 YJ and it needs a soft top. Any problems with it leaking or having too much wind rush going at higher speeds? Thanks so much in advance!

Sorry for the late reply! I have had no issues with this Smittybilt top. I have read some bad experiences about seams tearing and things like that. But, I personally have had no issues. As long as you let it warm up in the sun before you put it on you should be good to go. They fit fairly tight in my opinion, which I am okay with. But they can be a bugger to get on if it's not warm enough outside or at least sunny to warm up the fabric. As far as wind noise - yeah a little bit but every Jeep I have had with a soft top (3 Jeeps now) have been noisy at highway speeds. Hope that helps if you didn't already purchase one.

@@smalliebigs6784 I have the factory soft top frame. I do need to replace it within the next year or two and I'm not sure which company I am going to go with. I'll probably order whatever Quadratec has listed since they're only about 100 miles from me.

Hi Frank! I have a Smittybilt top and OEM bow assembly hardware. I do need to replace the bow assemblies sometime in the near future however. But yeah I have had no issues with the Smittybilt top at all.

The top is a Smittybilt. I am still using the OEM hardware (bow assembly and side rails). Overall the Smittybilt is holding up very well. Then again, it is only on the Jeep for about 5 months then it gets rolled up and stored. Thanks for the view and comment!
