Great Job. Getting the correct o-rings is key. Thanks.

That Torx bit is the right bad boy for this job! These things are the tightest bolt I’ve ever come across! I think the problem is that the bolt isn’t parallel, so it’s really difficult to get lots of torque on to it.

I'll be doing this for my car next couple of weekends. Thanks for posting!

Going to try this today, hopefully mine comes off as easy as yours! Did a valve cover gasket yesterday so I’m feeling confident💪🏻

Good video; it helped me with the explanation and removal of the internal bolt seals. I had to fight with the HVAC lines, heater core lines and starter lead...ugh...but with the right tools this should be easier. I ended up cutting down a torx bit into a modified 12mm socket. Gave me just enough room to squeeze in a 3/8 In. Long Reach Dual Flex Head Ratchet (harbor) which gave me all the leverage I needed. Cheers!!! BTW mines a 96 XJ going on 225K miles.

This job is easier if you remove the filter first and do an oil change while you under there !
@EricCantin Жыл бұрын
Filter was removed. I explained in the video why it was temporarily reinstalled.
@KennethDurham-e5q7 ай бұрын
I started to do this then it became apparent that I could use the filter center bolt and screw the filter direct to the block. I used a smaller filter on it. No more O ring leaks. This also works on the 93-99 ZJ Grand Cherokee.

There is also 9/16 for some years and a hex.

I have a 96 XJ,oil filter adapter was leaking, the kit I received didn't have the small 'o' rings either, replacing outer ring did the trick, later, my oil pressure started to leak from the back of it, replaced it, no more leaking.
@EricCantin Жыл бұрын
Interesting that your kit was also incomplete. Those oil pressure switches are really flaky. Doesn’t take much for them to work erratically or leak.

Awesome video! Gonna be doing this to mine soon. Which kit did you buy that did NOT have the correct gaskets?

Thanks! In bought a “complete engine gasket“. Wasn’t that complete!

Which way do you turn the socket? Towards the front grill or Towards the back end? Trying to take mine off and your video is a little confusing on which way to turn.
@EricCantin Жыл бұрын
Its standard threading, so counter-clockwise to loosen. They use loctite from the factory, so darn tight to break free.

It looked like you had an assortment of different o rings that weren't the ones from the 2 kits you have listed in the description (and I may be wrong about that) but did the combination of the two work for this job? Or was it the combination of the 2 plus some you had to add I want to order all of this but want to know what to expect. Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks for the video
@EricCantin2 жыл бұрын
Its been a while, so details are a little foggy. I think two of the three were from the kit, and the last one was from a generic o-ring kit. If you are near and Autoparts store / have access to a second vehicle, bring in the old o-rings and it will be a quick check.
@foestuart85172 жыл бұрын
Were did you buy your o ring from and what the www. Site please. As I can't found any in new Zealand

Does RockAuto dot com ship to NZ? They have quite a few options.

How many miles were on yours and when did it start leaking. Just did my oil pan gasket and rear main so I was going to do this but the torx bit keeps twisting out from torquing it not entirely strait.
@EricCantin2 жыл бұрын
This XJ has over 380,000kms. I noticed it was leaking when we got it about 5,000kms ago and it progressively got worse. Yes, its tricky keeping the torx bit straight. Good luck

@@EricCantin I ended up getting it with two wrenches locked it finally. Thank you.

Can you tell me where you got the torx bit from....
@EricCantin Жыл бұрын
I think through Amazon. With the part number, should be able to find it elsewhere. I’ve used them more often on other projects than I anticipated.
