I just bought a beautiful almost mint 1990 YJ a few weeks ago with only 102k miles with hard top and doors. Soft tops and soft doors and nice after market parts with every original peice also and sweet rims and tires. I have a few things I want to do to it and so far out of 100s of channels yours is by far the best.

Love your channel dude. Quick tip: Use feeler gauges for more accurate spark plug gaps. It's impossible to get them right with those cheap gappers.
@NoWr2Run4 жыл бұрын
30,000 miles is recommended for copper spark plugs which I always use because their so easy to get at on the 4.0, brass dist. cap. also & rotor. I'll give you a tip before changing your plugs, NOW'S THE TIME TOO CLEAN OUT YOUR THROTTLE BODY. Use T.B. Cleaner, SeaFoam what ever, spray it in or through a vacuum line, this way you won't screw up your new spark plugs. 1 thing I noticed on these Distributor Caps ( THE TERMINALS INSIDE SOME ARE VERY CROOKED ) ? I use a pair of pliers too straighten them out by turning the terminals where the boot clicks on then epoxy the terminal to the cap so it stays straight, just a little bit of epoxy. The epoxy I use is Devcon plastic steel in the twin tubes. I also tried super glue but it did not seem too hold up. If you really want to clean your T.B. GOOD, TAKE IT OFF THE INTAKE but for a through the engine cleaning do it before changing plugs. Like using SeaFoam or something else ?

Even though it runs good at idle, timing could be off a bit making it rough at higher rpm.

The YJ used a 2.5 L AMC 150 I4 or optional 4.2 L AMC 258 I6 until 1990. Starting in 1991, a fuel-injected 180 hp (134 kW) 4.0 L AMC 242 variant replaced the 112 hp (84 kW) 4.2 L 258 CID straight-6. The NP207 transfer case was used only for 1987 and replaced by the NP231

I've owned my 91 yj for 30 yrs and it has always been reliable. It over heated this past week and I replaced the water pump. Now, it starts (when its cold) and runs well for 5 mins then dies. Then won't start until I leave it alone for a while. What do you think it could be. Being it runs, its getting spark (I replaced the coil). What would be affected by it overheating like this?

Hey! This jeep does not have ac. No compressor. They do have the same alt mounting bracket. That’s where ac would mount. So there’s 2 different size belts. 1 for ‘with ac’ and 1 without

Sounds like a mild version of death wobble. Are your tie rods, ball joints in good shape? I was getting some mild wobble on my project Fungus at 20mph or so. Then it would smooth out when I picked up speed. Made a video on it you can check out. Replace Tie rods and it was fixed!

@@JeepSolid maybe so, the main reason it caught my ear is because everyone and their mother with a small block has those plastic clip thingies that keep all the wires in the same place moving together. then again there was a time that doctors told people to smoke cigarettes. @NoWr2Run4 жыл бұрын
@@JeepSolid Dale you are correct as crossing wires are better then running them in parallel, they have less chance of cross firing especially with JUNK, CHEAP OR OLD WIRES. Todays wires are pretty good with a lot of insulation. Changing them at 30,00 miles also is a BIG HELP keeping them pretty fresh on the 4.0. I bought lifetime wires so I'll see how long they last ?
