You are welcome! I love how easy and inexpensive these little Jeeps are to work on. I really like that comment,it lets me know that I'm doing these videos the right way :-) . As for first car ... mine was a '72 Camaro. Even though it was a 6 banger with a 3 speed manual in the floor. I'd love to still have it, but the 6 cyl would be been replaced with something much more potent by now! Thanks for checking out my video and the cool comments. Have a great day!!

To add to this, if you're already replacing your distributor cap/wires you might also consider silicone to make that cap water proof. You know, for when that moment comes that fording a local creek seems like a really good idea.
@Poweraddicts10 жыл бұрын
He is correct. Distributor cap does ride really low. So, if you like creek riding, seal that cap. Also, check the vent tubes on the t-case, trans, front and rear diff to make sure that they are sealed up so no water gets in them.

that little cap stuck out visually. I noticed a "1" on the cap. the old one had a "1" also. I followed the lead lengths also. everything was dirty and the rotor tab had bites I'm guessing where it was sparking? the cylinder leads are weird to me on my 91 yj 4 cylinder. 1,2 then looks like it fires 4 and then 3? I also did NOT check the pre tapped spark plugs. I did it last week and just saw this. I feel pretty good in my work being checked here. Hi there, I just bought a 94 YJ out here in Japan. The Japanese take pretty good care of their cars, but the first thing I did was change the oil (it was brown sludge). It has about 80k miles on it (130k kilometers), so I'm wondering what I should be looking for at this point. She came with a lift and 33's, so I think her life has mostly been weekend warrior. She is now my daily driver and I get lots of compliments. Can't wait to get her all fixed up. I am loving your videos!

Glad you like the videos, hope they help you. Mine had a VERY hard life before me. It was a farm toy for a 14 year old kid. First thing I did was change the fluids in EVERYTHING! I ended up doing the manual transmission 3 times because the was water mixed in the original fluid. After the 3rd time the fluid came out clean. Check all your hoses and belts for dry rot cracks. Check the the remaining life left on all your brake pads and shoes, change if needed. After all that ... drive it and enjoy is!! The old Jeep may still have a gremlin surface a time or two. But .. it would be a Jeep if it didn't :-) . Luckily the little tub of bolts are pretty easy to work on. Thanks for checking out my videos and taking the time to leave an awesome comment! @Poweraddicts9 жыл бұрын
Your welcome. That is a basic ignition tune up. Some people include PCV valve and air filter along with the ignition parts. I check the air filter, if it looks like it needs replacing I do it. If the engine uses alot of oil, then change the PVC valve. Being that you just got it and you may or may not know the history of it being maintained. If you don't, go ahead and change those parts also. Thanks for checking out my videos! Have a great day!

Power addict I have few questions my YJ 93 sometimes back fires , I already change the wires and plugs , also I change the fuel filter clean the throttle body and clean the sensor. And today 6-28-2021 it started doing back fire like it felt like it was missing fuel and back firing also , I was thinking should I change the MAP and TPS , ?
@Poweraddicts3 жыл бұрын
The TPS will have a "dead spot" in the throttle sweep. I have a video on that and the MAP. Slight possibility of it being a Crank Shaft Position Sensor. Most of the time they just go out and done. But I have seen them just bad enough to cause erratic issues.
@leesire6 жыл бұрын
Perfect video again! I wanted to hear it crank up. I bet that Jeep misses the farm! My 97 Sport has 106k miles, should I change the fuel filter? Going to do everything you said next week. Going to Siesta Keys this weekend. I hear the Red Tide is bad, but going anyway.

Awesome can't wait to do mine tomorrow Should I check the timing when done? And would you recommend changing the coil at the same time?
@Poweraddicts7 жыл бұрын
Timing is controlled by the Jeeps computer so you are off the hook there. I typically don't change the coil unless it failing. Good luck! Thanks for checking out the video! Have a great day!!
@rfailing19 жыл бұрын
Good vid - so I just got my 93 YJ lifted in very decent shape but engine seems to lack power. Of course has big tires which may contribute to lower power.....anyway I assume there is not timing adjustment for distributor? It's been years since I did a tune up, always adjusted timing. I assume the crank sensor tells the ignition when to fire.....yes?
@Poweraddicts9 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you like the video. You would be correct. Crank sensor takes care of that job. Installing much larger tires without proper gearing to go along with it, can hurt performance. I'm running 31s now, with no major damage on power. I could probably go to 33s max before it would really hurt the performance. I'd like to run 35s, but I'm not into regearing at the moment. I'm still running stock gearing at 3:07s 5-speed 4.0. Hope this helps! Thanks for dropping by and congrats on the YJ. Welcome to the Jeeping addiction!! :-) Have a great day!

Power Addicts - Jeep, car and motorcycle tips Thanks for replying....I drove a 1995 YJ for 4 years until the body mounts failed inspection last spring. Missed driving no doors & bikini top! Found the 93 on Chaigslist - has a 7" lift (more than I wanted) plus 35s. Don't know about the gearing, but it's running about 1000 rpm at 40mph in 5th gear so I assume stock gears. Now you have me wondering about what size tires to get when I replace these......any suggestions?
@Poweraddicts9 жыл бұрын
rgee bee Personally I would love to run 35s. If I run across a set for the right price I'll have 'em. But as I mentioned above, regearing to about 4:10s would be needed. Not to mention more lift. The 31s I run now are great with the stock gears. If you were to drop to tires that small, you would have massive gap between the tire and fenders. So with 7" of lift I'm assuming 4" suspension & 3" body. Pull the body lift and it wouldn't look too bad. But that's just my opinion. For my taste, I like some space between the tire and fender, but not lots of gap. Sometime this summer I will be demo'ing how to do a junk yard lift on YJ. Guessing I'll get about 2" of lift from that. So .. you mentioned above that 7" lift is more than you want. You have no power because of tires. Drop to 31s or 32s, pull the body lift (install maybe a 1" Daystar body lift), this will you help with both issues you mentioned. Thats the coolness of having a Jeep .. build 'em like we want 'em! :-)

@Poweraddicts6 жыл бұрын
I would change the oil just in case. Also, the front and rear differential may take on water, change that as well. I like driving in water but it always creates lots of work later to be sure that all the fluids are not contaminated with water. Have a great day!

hello i just purchased a 1993 jeep yj with auto transmission that took a dump had to rebuild my machanic says i need a tune up because when you floor it doesnt seem to have the power.. basically would a tune up help?? has 175 thousand miles on it
@Poweraddicts7 жыл бұрын
It may or may not make a difference in power. It really depends on the condition of the engine overall. Also .. if it truly needs a tune up. You didn't state if it was 4 cyl or 6. With 175,000 miles, I've known of the 6yclinders having over 300,000 and run great. The 4 cylinders have no power no matter what you do. My sister has a 4 cylinder and it struggles at everything it does.Even if it doesnt make a big difference, it will help fuel economy.

thanks for the reply its a 6cyl it does great once its starts moving its just on the acceleration where i notice its a bit slow

They are torque producing engines, They dont have a lot of giddy up and go to begin with. They are made to pull up hills, rocks and pull stuff. Taking off and going fast isnt in their stock configuration. They are probably the toughest engines I have ever had the pleasure to work on. Mine has well over 200,000 miles. My dads has close to 300,000. Proper oil changes and those 4.0s last a veeeerrry long time. But they don't take off like a car, they take their sweet time about getting up to speed.

@Poweraddicts10 жыл бұрын
Trust me I totally understand being on a budget! lol .. I dont remember right off 'cause it's been a while. Around $60 - $70 or so depending on what brand plugs and wires you buy. Also, the rotor button and cap, I always get the brass contacts instead of the aluminum. I tend to get the better parts so that they last longer. Being that I don't plan on getting rid of the Jeep I get lifetime warranty also. You don't need the high dollar spark plugs with the fancy metals and tips either. Just a good set of copper core plugs is fine. Thanks for checking out my videos! Have a great day!

Really enjoying your videos man. I just picked up a 91 from a guys house out in Joshua tree and it’s been sitting for the past 4 years. Prior to that it did run...regularly. He said he went out one day and tried to start it and it would fire up...there it sat for the next 4 years. A ton me up kit is high on my priority list, and specific recommendations? I tried digging through the comments but didn’t see anything. Thanks in advance
@Poweraddicts6 жыл бұрын
Get a quality cap and rotor with brass terminals, not the cheap aluminum terminals. Get quality spark plug wires as well. As for spark plugs, I run standard Autolite spark plugs. I've tried the fancy high dollar ones. I got no real performance difference so to me I was just wasting my money. Some people swear by the expensive plugs, again .. me personally I got no better mileage or performance out of them. Hope this helps! Enjoy that Jeep! Have a great day!!
