JKD Japan where Togo Ishii is one of its members.
@FightCommentaryАй бұрын
OH! That makes a lot of sense now! I really have to connect with more of its members. Japan has so many amazing martial arts people and channels, but rarely can I get in touch with them. Man, I think it's time for me to learn Japanese. That might be my my 2025. 2024 was learning chess and learning the us tax code. 2025 is for language learning.
@jkdfighter4964Ай бұрын
Sadly Watanabe and Togo Ishii's lineage of JKD needs lots of work. they come from Ted Wong's lineage, and Ted Wong wasnt the greatest instructor. He was good, but more like just basics and knowledge. Wong himself couldnt fight, so he couldnt teach his students how to fight. For example, these JKD guys don't know that you throwing single kicks is a horrible fight strategy. Kicks should be setup with punches, or at least throw 2-3 kicks at a time. Also these JKD guys need to fight better in the pocket. They're decent at medium/long range, but once they close the gap they dont really know what to do. They need to box better by throwing more boxing combinations and mix it in with hand trapping. and yes, they need to sidekick WAY more. I didnt even see one hook (round) kick used. What a damn shame. But I give them props for stepping up and doing it

Nice compilation. Karate guy at the end did quite well against JKD guy. The other guys get chased down by JKD practitioners since they keep moving back and JKD will take advantage of their momentum moving forward with their techniques going in a straight line. I'm wondering how they would fare against boxers who are afraid to take a hit and use head movement to avoid attacks and remain in position to counter. I know there's one popular boxer vs JKD (or was it Wing Chun?) video out there. It would be nice to see more samples.
@ericaugust1501Ай бұрын
i'm sure Bruce Lee would have loved mma, i mean his philosophy was all about adaptability. i'd have loved to see him in his prime, join and figure out mma. i wonder if in that last match, him going into a 'fencer stance' wasn't rather a 'if the hand is cut by the weapon, you can't use it' rule. i felt like that was rather what happened. but i could be wrong.

Standing square does have its benefits, as well as disadvantages. Its good for takedowns and when u wanna ‘shift’ and move the person around u rather than move around the person like in tai chi or wing chun. Never square for long though, the stance should be always flowing. Ur centre of gravity should be moving around so the opponent cannot find it
@majorsparkles5133Ай бұрын
Being square is the best way to fight if you're using Wing Chun principles.
@MatadorM9Ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say being completely squared is good but I think being a bit squared has advantages over a traditional side stance. Specially sports like kickboxing/Muay Thai where low kicks are involved bc it’s easier to check kicks. It’s also good if takedowns are included in the rules. For sports like Taekwondo WTF I would use a traditional stance.

@kacklerotАй бұрын
Being squared is making a risky wager. It's on the bet you are faster and have more stamina and is wagering you can beat your opponent through sheer volume and pressure in close. But you expose more targets to your opponent and you can be knocked down backwards if not careful. But you have quicker side movement to flank your opponent and a quick defense for leg kicks. Everything has their strengths and weaknesses.

If Bruce Lee had lived to today, JKD would most likely be one of, if not the most dominant styles in MMA... the entire CONCEPT of JKD is basically MMA to begin with.
@JizzyPresАй бұрын
Nope. MMA ia sport. JKD is self defense...
@JizzyPres3 күн бұрын
@UnjustVerdict nobody knows what Bruce woulde be cause hes dead. What we know is the state of JKD when he died. And it has nothing to do with MMA or sport. I like JKD a lot and trained it myself even train sometimes still in seminars. The concept is about self defense. Self defence is not about competition in sports and limit yourself by sport event rules. Is Krav Maga for example MMA too? In my opinion both definetly not.
@JizzyPres3 күн бұрын
@UnjustVerdict yeah you can do whatever you like. But when you join an MMA, boxing, muay thai, judo etc. gym you will be taught a sport related thing and most of the time no self defence related. And JKD is not about mixing everything you like to have. In original JKD or Jun Fan you will learn what Bruce taught his student. With a clear concept. In JKD concept schools you will get taught some ideas of Jun Fan interpreted by the one you are training. But still here there is a clear concept about JKD and its not about mixing everything you like to have. Its about what fits your body and skills and transform your JKD but within the concept of JKD. But at the end Bruce died too young and nobody knows what JKD would look like if he would have more time and completed it. If he would have completed it at all. I just dont like these generel saying like the beginning post. Cause it shows that people dont have much experience with JKD and saying things like that. But fine by me everyone should do what fits for them. Edit: and yeah you right. Cross training and better cross sparring is very important.

Ah, reverse gripping a weapon--surest sign they've never used one (and yes, I've seen the medieval manuscripts where a rondel is held this way, but...stop. That's not how knife fighting works). Regarding a square stance, I tend to agree, but I've heard Bas Ruten talk about the possible advantages too. The guy in this video didn't use any of them, but think Muay Thai's stance--square so all weapons are front and center at some cost to mobility.
@JizzyPresАй бұрын
I think you dont train a lot of knife. Heaven or earth grip is both valid. Depends on what do you want to do and what you train. In Silat or FMA you learn both grips. And they work a lot with knifes.
