Low or mid lead sidekick is one of the most effective trick for intercepting or counter enemy roundhouse kick. But sad to say that I rarely see MMA fighters utilizing it, most probably due to muay thai influence that they are not confident using it.

Thank god for this channel. Tommy is getting older and his old viral viral videos are no longer viral. This is helping spread the true art. Especially, after the Metrolina Channel saying JKD is not useful and he only does it because he thinks its cool is a disgrace to Bruce Lee's legacy.

Thanks. This channel has very little impact though. Also, I'm getting older myself, I'm 43, had a lower back surgery 2 years ago, I'm nowhere near I want to be.

Beatiful illustration. Maximum power in this manner. Bruce’s side photos are exactly like this. IFO jkd.

Good advice to drive through the target. A exercise I like is swinging a heavy bag (around 40KG) and when it comes in, try to stop it. Good for balance.

Bruce did that actually.

I do that with a 90 kilo bag exactly but it wil bend and bounce up in the air and I want to follow up on the heavybag .. but I can’t because the bag bounce after a full hit with any side kick. So I tap with the side kicks to follow up . I know it’s not the best way to train .

Before I knew about IFO, I remember watching either video or vcr tapes on JKD, and Dan ALWAYS performed a kick like the "flashy" type. That's a "concepts" kick. A stylish Dan kick, exclusively his kick. Bruce never performed a kick like that...., another proof Dan never got or comprehended JKD, much less perform it correctly.

Low lead sidekick to the rear leg is uncommon in jeet kune do, but it is useful against an opponent who shifts his/her weight on the rear foot which impedes mobility. Also more damage can be done if executed. Can you please show us, maybe in another video demonstrating that?

When the opponent is kicking from the side, and opening himself, kicking his leg at that he is standing on, is devastating for him. You immediately tear all his tendons in the knee.
@DylansTracks
@DylansTracks 4 жыл бұрын
I believe using the blade of the foot is fine, especially to the knee cap. You must really turn the back of the foot though, it can have the same results.
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO 4 жыл бұрын
You can apply the most force if you place the foot anatomically correct. The foot isn't meant to walk on its edge, try to apply great force or run like that, eventually you'll hurt yourself. Kicking with its edge is pure tradition and unnatural.

Thomas, you do have a bit more natural protective distance due to your height and the length of your legs. It's a bit different for we shorties lol

Can you explain why Bruce Lee used high or mid height side kicks in his movies? And in what cases are both high and mid height side kicks effective?
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO 4 жыл бұрын
For theatrical reasons. They can be all effective, but the lower is the most efficient one.

@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO I imagine it is harder to block or to see a low side kick coming. And as for Bruce Lee's high and mid height side kicks in his movies, I suppose Bruce Lee would fight differently in a real fight in comparison how he fights in his movies ( for example using less flashy moves/techniques )

Wait but dont you put your lead foot first followed by the rear foot and then you lift your lead leg and twist your hip to perform the thrust kick? I have another question how do you return to the OGP from the low lead side kick
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO 4 жыл бұрын
You only need the lead step if you are to far away to close the distance, typically you dont want to do this, because its an additional telegraph. But yes, technically you can do it with starting with the lead step and with out. You recover from the kick as quickly as possible, after you kick you bend your leg back and turn to the front again, while you are landing your front leg back to the ground. Thats one possibility.

@Wolfgath that strange, i played around with Sanda guys and they pulled their knee up and pivot back leg + kick at the same time. They said if the leg just go right up then your kick will get caught, even with kick to the leg so the chamber is there to prevent that, shoot in and out like a jab
