I gotta say, this dude learned everything from Bruce Lee's books and movies. If Bruce were alive, he'd be so proud of this dude. In fact, Bruce's first student, Jesse Glover, met this guy in person and saw what he could do. Out of his own mouth, he told Tommy, "You punch just like Bruce!"

To answer your question, yes I have been in 19 street fights fights in my life, all the fights started without any warning, 8 of them were twice my size. and 3 of them pulled knives on me. NONE of that is in MMA and I seriously injured each one of them, especially the guys with knives. Not here to say I'm a badass. I did what I had to do to defend myself. You know you are going to fight someone in an MMA fight when the ref signals you to start.

for people that don't know, jkd punches as demonstrated by Bruce Lee are similar to boxing except you pivot both your feet into the strike and even with the fast punches you can twist your hips into them too. Try big strikes then lil for diversion and big again. worked for me sparring a boxer friend of mine, but jkd is meant to be YOUR way of fighting. It is only truly concepts/principles rest is up to you.

Bruce Lee was a boxer before he moved to America. Using his wing chun skills he defeated the 3rd time winner in that competition. He also uses many principles and footwork from boxing in jeet kune do. He is also one the major influences in Mixed martial arts.

Your comment is just stupid why would you throw MMA into this video? If you know anything about Jeet Kune Do is that it's designed to be "formless" so that you can adapt do your opponents fighting style. Bruce Lee proved that, and if he was alive he would prove it again.

The fast hitting is just a disctraction. Your body can only react to 1 hit a second. So if you hit 2 times in 1 second, that 2nd punch feels a lot harder. Really great technique..

I have to say, I think Jeet Kune Do is a pretty amazing martial art. It would be perfect to learn, and would help anyone in sport or on the street. The downside is I feel I'd need another 15 years of martial arts experience to do a beginner course in this. I feel it was designed for someone who is already a master of sever different martial arts.

One does not simply "Jeet Kune Do" a standing still guy, don't get me wrong, this is a fine demonstration of agility, but "be water" means something completely different. With Jeet Kune Do you basically react to your opponent's movements, "you don't know what I'm gonna do, neither do I, my movements are the result of your movements, my technique the result of your technique".

@RosesandCrack12 жыл бұрын
Agreed. MMA is basically a more regulated version of Vale Tudo. Vale Tudo is a pretty accurate representation of a real fight because there are no rules. MMA started as a way to test all martial arts against each other to see which is the most effective, the reason you see more BJJ and Muay Thai fighters than anything else in MMA is because those styles are generally the most effective, although there are always exceptions.
@thescotsman199112 жыл бұрын
Duly noted man. The reason I said what I said is because I myself have been in more than my share of street fights in my time. Fighting both untrained and highly trained ring fighters(2 boxers, 4 muay thai practitioners, 3 of them were also bjj practitioners, 1 wrestler, 2 kyokushin karate black belt(claim to be), and about 11 untrained brawlers). The brawlers were no trouble at all. All of these fights happened outside the ring. It wasn't that they were martial artists but the fighting systems

Finally someone said it. MMA is cool and I enjoy it but that is competition fighting and not a real fighting. A real fight can happen in an instant, has NO rules, everything is allowed, and their is no ref to stop the fight. In the ring, both competitors are aware that they are going to fight. Outside the ring, you never know what is going to happen. Bruce Lee understood that better than anyone.

hey guys nice comments, well thought, you are all right on your parts. Bruce would have loved the aerly UFC, and Gracie jiujitsu but he would have certainly pissed off the gracies by trying to improve their grappling... mma is a duel combat sport, no weapons, a ref, a doc, a lot of safety within confinement. jkd was indeed one of the first mma-forms, geared solely towards street fighting, "self-defence", which is in JKD a good offense. ps: Carruthers is as fast as hell. he is one of the best.

Bruce Lee spent most of his life to training, and it was the most brutal training, that this day no person will or can do, people do not have the same passion as Lee had! He was devoted to a healthy life style, more vegetarian then meat eater. He's speed became faster from his time of training and the style of training performed. No one has time this day as Bruce Lee had!

There are NO rules in a street fight. Which is why all of those guys I fought got hurt. Just like my sifu in Wing Chun, sensei in Judo and BJJ, instructors in Krav Maga and Escrima, I'm a purist in the martial arts. I believe that martial arts are for self defense. Bruce Lee couldn't stress that enough when it came to the philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. Which is why I created my own Jeet Kune Do. P.S. I love watching MMA.

On theory yes. On practice it is completely different. I had a friend who was a renown Russian amateur boxer. He loved to get into troubles. He has known all those "dirty tricks" like kicking to nuts or knees, but he never used them. He unconsciously was making a boxing rules in the street fight. I saw him losing street fights in less than 15 seconds. 1st time due to headbutt, 2nd time from straight kick to the knee. All that because boxing rules have become his habit. The same applies to MMA.

Very nice technique i would not want to fight this guy hes very very fast with his hands. I would however like to train under this guy. He reminds me alot of Bruce. Whoever says that this isnt Jeet Kune Do obviously doesnt know what Jeet Kune Do really is. He was teaching that there is not just one way there is multiple ways to defeat ones enemy. So dont try to diss this man just because your not as good as he is at Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do translates to The Intercepting Fist.

That's true, but with a little correction. BJJ and Muay Thai are most effective on the ring. There are lots of techniques that can not be used in full potentials on the ring (like Wing Chun or Krav Maga) only because about 70% of those techniques are strikes restricted by MMA rules due to high injury potential. Therefore practitioners of those styles would only use their techniques at about 30% of natural potential, which is not wise. MT and BJJ don't have many techniques that are restricted.

i wasnt refering to the video, i was refering to the comments that some people were leaving behind. what im saying is anyone that knows how to kick can kick you in the nuts. you dont need to train much to try to poke a guy's eye out, or to punch him in the throat. actual trained mma fighters will destroy these guys that are depending on things like eye gouging. its not a realistic mindset for a fight. poking an eye out doesnt make up for someones inability to fight.

I always wanted to learn martial arts as a kid, but never could afford it. My technique is called "hide in a bush", though I also practice a more ancient art called "run the fuck away quickly" I could move as fast as Bruce Lee....if I were running from Bruce Lee. He'd probably slip in poo and fall chasing me as my bowels released themselves. Which brings me to the best technique of all, a style called "Poo to shoe". Essentially, you just crap yourself and run. Works every time.

@terrencemcg ok im not saying this guy isnt fast or strong but at 0:19 he slearly slaps himself and at 0:31 he kicks the wall those sound effects are not coming from him hitting the guy or anything becasue he clearly isnt making contact or the guy would be knocked out or hurt and he isnt breaking the sound barrier causing a mini sonic boom! so yes he is stomping and hitting himself.
