Have an exit plan collectors! It’s crazy to see things like this, a guy amassing a 300k book collection, spending probably upwards of a million, and his heirs sell it off at $1 a comic. Just can’t collect and hoard without an exit plan, without some guidance to your heirs of what to do and how to sell. Can’t help but to think of the Edgar Church collection, $50m collection and the family sold it off probably for a few thousands.

Well, the collection wasn't worth that at that time. Google 1977 Overstreet guide.

There was never a million bucks going into this collection. It looks like this all came from mortar and brick store that closed . A 50-100K is more realistic. The original owners were ordering dozens of same books for maybe a dollar a piece in bulk purchases. etc.. It depends on the keys as to how valuable the collection was.

Just finding stacks of keys in the midst of all that craziness is just insane. The next time I get accused by the wife of being a hoarder, I am showing her some of these pics from this video. Great Find, the work will be worth it in the end.

I love the Hot 10 you guys do each week, however the back stories you discuss on artist, writers, and even buying collections is the real "meat on the bone" for fans that love comics and so therefor I love the Hot 10, but love the stories on Bags & Boards. Keep it coming. Love the story about driving in the car with the kids and getting the call saying your out as a potential buyer, we've all been there, Hell I was stressing out for you just hearing about it, lol. Glad you guys got back in and got the collection. Lastly...............Trust the Process!!!

wow guys, awesome find-congrats sealing the deal,....was it worth it? dunno. its too hard to tell what all is there.... i was always about keeping the best stuff myself, flush the rest,...but what a mindblower to even attempt to come up with an offer, theres so much stuff i was always about keeping the best stuff myself, flush the rest,..so- how bout this? weekend before a major con near you, already have a small warehouse rented and slam it full of dollar books, or $3,$5 whatever your price point needs to be and you can still have some wall books behind the stock....and have a pre-wonder minicon or pre rose city, etc,...just an idea they do it before san diego i think just an idea🤔

Just catching up on the story now on that massive collection acquisition... I'm curious to know if the other "interested parties" did their own research or did the owner give your hard-earned work to them? Like did you give the owner the list of key comics, your estimated value to the other bidders and they just swooped in and tried to just outbid? Hopefully not...

So they were taking people's offers and using the offers as bids and pumping up the dollar amount? You know I do this for a living, and that "process" is designed to cause paranoia and distrust, to create a bidding war. That's why I do "first offer, final offer". After we do a thorough evaluation, I make my best offer out of the gate. Then it's good for a set duration of time, and I won't budge, to keep it all from taking months to close. I'm glad you got it completed and it worked out for you, guys. You're more patient and trusting than I am.
