Watching this after spending the day watching the Christies of London auction of Jeff's guitars and other gear. Sad to see all his gear all head off to new owners and his collection scattered around the world. This video was however such a pleasure to watch and to see Jeff sitting surrounded by some of his favorites and telling the stories about each one of them. Although there is nothing better than to hear Jeff tell the stories and history of his fine collection himself, Christies Auction House put together a great sales catalog for the auction with great photos as well a very detailed history, pedigree, and stories of his gear. If you are into Jeff and his guitars I highly recommend that you check out the catalog online. Well worth the time . . .

I’m always curious who comes up with the estimate price on the guitars for auction. Totally way off. I know the low estimate will always draw a crowd in. I’m like you it’s hard to watch a beautiful collection of guitars get split up and end up in a vault somewhere.

That was his wish, though brother. Sandra said she felt the pull of parting with them. But Jeff wanted them to go in new hands and keep being played! That's the Jeff Beck spirit right there, mate! Jeff was so amazing. He knows the big picture. He did his thing. Gave a few people a thrill. And he's off. Wipe his hands together, that's it! See you at the pub. 🎉 😂 🌟 🎸

Got to see Jeff Beck many times, but the first time was very memorable. Drove from Southern Illinois to St. Louis to see him and we were behind schedule. Upon entering the old theatre we hear his guitar all of a sudden. We race down a hallway towards the sound and the next thing I know we are on the stage to Jeff's left. Standing in awe a mere 10 or 15 feet away we got to see the master up close. It was the Blow by Blow tour and Jeff was the backup to John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu.

I’m not trying to correct Jeff Beck on guitars, by any means, but isn’t the guitar he uses to emulate Scotty Moore an ES175 rather than an L5?

I love his English accent. And soft spoken nature. Then put on a Strat and blow the roof off a place. But play something delicate ✨️ too. Amazing human being Jeff.

Scotty’s early Gibsons were a ES-295, an L5, then a Super 400. I believe Chips Moman ended up with the latter. I’ve seen disputes about the one you’re referring to, as to wether it is or isn’t an L5. I sure don’t know, and Jeff didn’t seem to be sure either.

The same thought ran through my head it looked like Steve Howe's main guitar. But I was busy really listening to Jeff and watching his reactions and this is probably the fifth time I've seen this video. You look at the guitars real quick, but really you're reading Jeff the whole time as you should. That ES 175 always look like a huge guitar when Steve was holding his, he was so tiny lol

He's playing guitar styles on this clip I don't think I've ever ever consciously thought I've heard him play before like Piedmont blues, country Travis picking and straight country playing..which are styles I never really associated with Beck..styles I'd more associate with Mark Knopfler or Albert Lee etc, etc,...

Just like his cars, I don't think he thought about stuff too much. He just thought to himself. This is the direction I wanna go and he figured it out quickly. He did custom stuff on his guitars, custom stuff on his cars and everything he did was unique .... He followed his heart And then he captured ours. Chasing sound and chasing speed...

Jeff had an old early Stonehouse in the country. I think there were pictures of it with him meeting with Eric Clapton at the house In a Rolling Stone magazine I bought roughly 15 years ago. I have that copy in my old house in great shape, wish I could've gotten him to sign it. Think about being able to do that interview!!!..... Jeff's wife was there also… I believe Jeff and Eric were outside walking the dogs in a light snow. They had a few of these guitars out. I think they were playing one that Eric had given to Jeff on the couch. Eric was teasing him about giving it back. I think it was a telecaster. Jeff's wife had been badgering him to get out on tour again. She said nobody wants to pay to see you turn a wrench.... Obvious for his love of cars and motorcycles. He was an ace mechanic people may not know that. That's a fact. He liked to remodel roadsters and design and build different things/parts for his cars. He shared a common friendship with Billy Gibbons over those things. I think it was guitars, cars, and girls and maybe not in that order… Maybe that's where I got it from. He wasn't just my guitar hero. He was a fascinating guy. Got to see him quite a number of times thank God I saw him again twice on the last tour..... Saw a picture of him somewhere hanging out with Brian Setzer in the West Village in Manhattan in between the two shows I saw Redbank, New Jersey and Huntington, New York with Johnny Depp, who I'm not gonna disparage at all; made for interesting shows. They were having fun. Jeff said when he met Johnny something just clicked. Jeff was always kind of a kid inside and I think Johnny Depp rekindled that in him, either way it gave Jeff a lot of energy and it's good to have friends. I know Johnny was very, very upset when Jeff passed so suddenly. He was spectacular and really studied different genres and guitar stylings that struck him somewhere deep inside. From Les Paul to Stevie Wonder And his own contemporaries like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton He had great ears and exceptional taste, and he made the most of it with people around him. You never hear any bad stories, he might've been a little moody, but everybody seemed to still like him And to a man or a woman, they really appreciated his ability and his soul for playing. You can get wistful and a bit sad when you think about him or listen to him now. Frozen in time with all the work he did. The auction is coming up. I'm sure his wife needs the funds. I went to David Gilmour's auction in New York. Everything quickly got bid into the stratosphere..... I'm sure Jeff will do likewise.... I'd like to believe he found Christ, I don't know for a fact. He wore crosses a lot for what it's worth. I'd like to meet him directly in person one day. It's one of the things I pray for.... Among the many. May God bless you,eternally Jeff Beck 🎸🎶🏁🙏🏼

That's a fact. My father worked with Les Paul on and off on a bunch of Recordings andendeavors in New York City. We used to go to their house in Mahwah New Jersey. They were about five minutes from us up in Wyckoff. I remember being told by my father, not to touch anything in that house. It was like a mad scientist lab you couldn't keep your hands off stuff. Les Paul didn't care as long as we didn't drop anything. My father was mortified.....😱 I got to know his son's a bit as I grew older. I went to Rusty's funeral (Les Junior) Lot of interesting people showed up the guys from Vanilla Fudge and Steve Miller played and sang.... I'll never forget that ....everybody couldn't have been nicer. Rusty was always a sweet guy and he had a very rare model of a particular Gibson base in the style of a 335.... Pretty sure it was built just for him the way he wanted it.

@warrenbutterfield420813 күн бұрын
More likely Seymour Dunkirk… Cause that one sailed away. I believe there's an early Esquire that Jeff owned at one time in the rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame now, when you look at that thing up close it looks like you took your guitar to a good Luthier and said "give me an anti-set up...." I have no idea what or how he played that thing. It looks like my homemade skateboard from 1966, Stole a cheeseboard, yup a long elliptical cheeseboard my mother was given as a gift and then slapped on metal rollerskate wheels..... In other words, something designed to kill you so I'm not sure how he got a sound out of that thing. It's just wild to see it there..... It looks like it was cracking driftwood… Totally unplayable lol
