No one played the Stratocaster better than Jeff Beck. Not Clapton, not Hendrix. Beck was the master. For me, this performance captures everything that he was about musically. The stage presence, the way he replicates the voice, and his absolute dominance of the guitar. Don't knows what else to say really.

They are all exceptionally good in their own way. All of these great guitarists are in a category of their own virtually. And they can all do things that the others can’t quite do.

Well said. This performance really captured Jeff at the top of his game. The dynamics, the feel and the tonality are magnificent. The thing is I've heard so much blues over the decades that frankly I'm sick of it. I typically find it boring and repetitive. But not this performance. Jeff avoids every worn down blues cliche and manages to convey a voice and style that's so damn good and so damn unique. This is my fav Jeff Beck performance.

While JB was certainly a master guitarist and a legend to be sure, and one of my all time favorite players, it’s futile to argue he was the greatest, over others that you mentioned. Suffice it to say he holds a place forever in guitar mastery!😉🙂✌️🎸😎

Jeff Beck was and will remain the only person capable of making his guitar sound so masterfully. In less than 4 minutes, he displays a breathtaking technical range that is impossible to match, which he puts to good use in a sensitive performance. The performance is made all the more beautiful by the fact that he plays it without ostentation, but with the humility that is the panache of the greatest.

He played the guitar as close to a human voice as I've ever heard. Nuance on every note, such amazing feel, always inventive - it's all there, the wailing, the humour, the tears, the joy, the 'yeah cos it's rock n roll mate', the lot. He was a True Master. Never played the same songs the same way twice and never failed to stop growing as a musician. Great band leader too. Love this cover, there aren't many that could have pulled it off, yet alone perform it like That. RIP Jeff the legend.

Great comment. I agree with every word. The playing aside- which is transcendent on this tune- his stage presence is both amusing and thrilling. Jeff knew how to be a rock star- but never took himself too seriously. I’ve loved him since I bought Truth as a 12 year old in 1971. Jeff Beck; even his name is cool. What a guitar player…

How often does the back-up band stand and applaud the soloist in their ensemble?! It's as rare as hen's teeth. I've been a lead guitarist since age 15 in 1967, and Beck has been one of my guitar heroes since forever. He's supreme. I only wish I'd met him and jammed with him (even if I just played bongos). I would have bowed at his feet, but he would probably tap me on the shoulder and say softly, "No, you don't have to bow down to me."

@rickjason215
@rickjason215 Жыл бұрын
@@holliswilliams8426 For most guitarists it is a gimmick. They grab it, but it really adds nothing to their playing. More a prop than anything else. Beck’s control of the whammy bar and the muting of all the strings, but the one he is playing is incredible. I believe he is muting with his fretting hand, because no other strings ring out and he can’t mute with his right hand, while using the whammy bar.

I love watching magicians because, even as an adult, the feeling I get is amazing. There's always a part of me that's amazed like I'm really seeing something that is impossible. It's like the laws of the universe are suspended and what is impossible is actually happening right before my eyes. Of course I know it's deception at its finest but I enjoy being hoodwinked just the same. I've been listening to Jeff Beck for almost 50 years now and I listen because it's always been a totally visceral and uplifting experience but the feeling is better than watching a magician because there's no deception. What I'm hearing is real. There's no being fooled here. Jeff has that ability to suspend the laws of the universe and the music he makes is genuine magic. Now, when I speak of him I'll have to use the past tense and sitting here in private knowing that there's "no going back" I'm saddened to tears. There are a very few small handfuls of modern guitarists that are more than head and shoulders above the rest. They're in the stratosphere above all others but Jeff Beck has always stood a few feet above even those greats and I'm powerfully sad knowing he isn't out there somewhere walking the planet at the same time that I am. I'm powerfully sad! Powerfully sad! I'm sad and very sorry to see you go Jeff. Thank you for all the wonder and magic. Rest Easy!

@mrfester42
@mrfester42 Жыл бұрын
@@nickypiccallo He was not "the most gentle" as you say. I'm not knocking him at all but you're quite mistaken. I've read plenty of times over the decades from people who know him that he had a wicked temper, which again, I have no problem with because I'm the same way. I'm commenting on it because it seems odd to me that people project certain qualities onto celebrities or make false assumptions as if they know what they're talking about. There's no need for that. As far as I'm concerned they guy could have a bad a temper as much as he wanted. I'm only interested in his music. Projecting these "pie in the sky" qualities onto celebrities is silly. I saw him live 3 times in my life and I actually spoke to him and got within about 2 feet of him and I saw that temper flare up right in front of me. standing
