Jeff was on fire at this show. Instead of being sad let's celebrate the incredible body of work he put out.
@prajnachan333 Жыл бұрын
I saw Robben Ford at Yoshi's and he said at one point that he wasn't sad at the passing of B.B. King. He just marveled at a life well lived. Then went into Rock Me Baby. (!) That certainly pertains to this incredible artist.

That is the most brilliant use of whammy bar I've ever heard. The guy is a total genius for dynamics, feel, musicality and creation.

There is nobody else who can play like this. Nobody.This man IS the guitar, he is the music that comes out of the guitar.There are guitar players by the million and then there is Jeff Beck. He is a fucking genius.

Don't hold back, tell us how you REALLY feel, LOL! But then again, I feel the same way. He is my guitar hero, there are a very few that play technically better, but none with the same combination of skill and emotion, that's why he is my favorite!
@perlindell13052 жыл бұрын
Guitar players can be discussed and compared, pros and cons, who does what and how. But what Jeff does here, especially how he plays the first melody by using the tremolo bar.... , well, it is not even guitar playing, it is something completely different. Amazingly beautiful.

@@michaelware1649 throw technical out the window lol... he plays with his fingers... nobody but he does that... do you realize how intimate that has to be?... Jeff stands alone

Actually I know someone who can play this song and even being even more precise than Jeff (who is out of tune and unprecise). Anyway the studio version is beautiful, maybe Jeff was tired that day.

I only discovered out recently Jeff Beck. Very seldom - if at all - I have felt a musician being a oneness with his instrument. Sure, there are many excellent guitar players, but he is up a certain level. Not so easy to describe...

I have to say when Jeff picks up a telecaster his natural feel really shows. He's a master of the strat but something pure about hearing the way he manipulates notes without using the vibrato. Mint. 👌

I wish Jeff would play teles and Les Pauls more. He used them pretty heavily in the 70s

I don't think that non-guitar players understand just how nearly impossible "where were you" is to play. It shouldn't be possible, but clearly impossible is Jeff Becks middle name.
@mickdestiny6542 Жыл бұрын
The Strat Plus came from Jeff asking Fender in 1986 for a Strat with a thicker neck for his upcoming Japanese tour. It became the prototype but he didn't, at that stage, want his name on a guitar. He wasn't too happy with it for some reason but because it had the Wilkinson roller nut and locking tuners he used it on the Guitar Shop album, specifically Where Were You. He tried to cut it with other guitars but this one could help with sustaining the beautiful harmonics he was trying to achieve. He gets the vocal quality an opera singer on that one. Long live Jeff Beck.
@jamescassidy3995 Жыл бұрын
@@mickdestiny6542 I used to work for Fender for many years - when Jeff’s Signature Strat finally came out in funky Seafoam Green & Olympic White & some weird Midnight Purple - none of which he ever played live, he told me that Fender asked his tech to send over “one of Jeff’s guitars” so they could match the new planned Signature guitar to his favourite Strat neck. Roadie sent over a ‘58 Gibson Les Paul Junior with the famous primitive fat baseball bat neck. Fender faithfully reproduced what they were sent & needless to say when Jeff was sent the prototype & found out what had happened he thought it was hilarious & would mess with people’s heads to think that he actually played a Strat with such a crazy fat neck! So he just let it go & kept it as an inside joke whilst continuing to play his favourite slim neck Strats with swapped out p/u’s, Wilkinson roller nut etc. Typical of his beautiful mischievous sense of humour 🎸✌️✨
@ropiyas Жыл бұрын
@@jamescassidy3995 You used to work for Fender, eh? Right. Then you say that he never used his Seafoam Green Signature Strat, eh? Riiiight. Then do yourself a favour and check out his Arsenio Hall gig and then his WHOLE TOUR of that year (89) and subsequent year (90) and then again in 95... Sigh. Bozos spreading lies on the internet since...for ever, apparently. 😁

Jennifer Batten deserves a lot of credit as well. Really good backing of another guitarist who she can likely out play technically. And she wrote this likely.
@Synonomous Жыл бұрын
She is given writing credit along with Hymus and Beck. Her name is written first so whatever that means. Not sure what outplay technically means. Faster? Not important. They are both virtuosos in their own right but she is totally riding the wave of his fame here. She is 13 years his junior and he is playing pretty well for a 57 year old here.

I'd love it if he played the Tele (or Les Paul) on every song. The Strat whammy bar business has become too much of his playing and its really annoying. And use a pick alot more. He tears that Tele apart with the pick as well as fingers. Might be the best I've seen him play, on Mama Said. It was cool when he wouldnt give the Tele to his roadie.
