Jeff Bezos and his brother Mark will join the auction winner on New Shepard’s first human flight

Auction bidding is already at $2.8 million with nearly 6,000 participants from 143 countries.
Bidding is underway now at BlueOrigin.com and concludes with a live online auction on June 12th. Anyone interested in bidding in the live auction must register by June 10th. Registration details can be found at BlueOrigin.com.
The winning bidder will fly to space on New Shepard’s first human flight on July 20th.

I always assumed the auction was to find out what people are willing to pay. If they had a fixed price they’d risk no one buying which would be a PR disaster, but instead they now have lots of data on what different types of people would be willing to pay. Bezos has extremely deep pockets and very far out ambition. I know a lot of people scoff at the pace of progress but they always said they were going to have a slow start. I’m more concerned about how they handled their moon lander bid from a design perspective. I think it might have been a mistake to partner up with established aerospace companies. Now that Bezos is partially disengaged from Amazon I fully expect him to apply the same growth principles to Blue Origin.

Hopefully to actual building a rocket company that can compete with SpaceX - but I'm not holding my breath. Rocket lab and others are far ahead of them in actual value to the launch market. And to be honest, a few million dollars is a paltry sum for what is supposedly, according to mainstream news, SpaceX's biggest rival.

@@jerichom11x If you do tax write offs for donations you don't save more money than you lost it just writes off the tax for the donation amount that you made. A lot of leftists/socialists/communists seem to believe an almost urban myth at this point that if you're a corporation or rich individual that if you donate money to charity your total tax liability will be reduced and the action of donating to charity will leave you with more total money in your pocket, this is just simply objectively not even remotely true and never has been, it's just a fundamental misunderstanding of how taxes work just like how some people say they don't want to get a pay rise at work because it will put them in a new tax bracket without understanding how even the most basic principles of taxes work.

I was so excited in the dawn of all the private companies that started space programs when everything went commercial. What a giant let down they've become. Blue Origin can't even compete with Rocketlab at the moment. Those kids are 3D Printing their rockets. The more hits Blue Origin takes the worse off they are. I sincerely hope the two of you have a very successful flight. I really want Blue Origin to succeed in it's aspirations. I also hope they're able to maintain enough momentum to become more than a curiosity. New Shepard is a fine tech achievement, but comparatively simple compared to what ULA and SpaceX are doing.
