Was there that night. Concert started late, then Jeff came onstage on his own and played for what seemed like half an hour but I guess it was only 10 minutes. Bass player ran through auditorium during this and went backstage. Couldn't work out whether he was really late or it was a joke. Then band came on. Brilliant gig.

Yay : ) He understood lateral playing & nuance.. most guitarists play within a very limiting vertical box stucture when it comes to the fretboard. He had a completely different approach than most. It's one of my favorite aspects of his music.. how much he stood out because he just understood dynamics in his guitar approach and was never afraid to break out of the box and use weird voicings. He played like a painter w/broad strokes of harmonic cascades. It's a more textural style of playing.

I agree 100%. His unrehearsed performances make him so exciting to listen to. You never know where he's gonna go. It had to be nerve-racking as hell being in his band though.

Sounds like he's mixing in just a taste of the stylings from 'All Flowers/What Will You Say/Eternal Life' in the intro too.. chorus chords from 'Grace' mid-solo. Never ceases to amaze me how he could 'frankenstein' any song. He would just flow with it, even if he flubbed something he would just ever-so-'grace'-fully pull it together to make it a part of the character of the song. Honest, human performances were what made him outstanding. Weird science. Mad genius. It's ALIVE !!! I MISS HIM.

"One guitar player has an orchestra in his hands," says Jeff Buckley. "I like guitar parts that have a really insistent rhythm & attitude, but with finesse at the same time. I like chords that have parts of two chords," says Buckley, who often uses droning strings & octave voicings in standard, dropped-D, open-G, D, & C tunings. "I like the guitar's mysterious quality the best." Guitar Player, April 1995

He knows where to leave empty space to draw you in. And he could use effects for augmenting sounds that were coming strictly from his technique instead of being utterly dependent on effects to cover up for a lack of colors in his technical palette.

OKAY, i've been looking all over for a live performance where Jeff Buckley plays and instrumental version of "Killing Floor" by Jimi Hendrix. Does anyone know where I can find it. I googled it, but nothing came up.
