I can relate hardcore. I was born in 91 but my oldest brother was born in 77 an played guitar. He bought me a BC Rich Warlock(starter one) for Christmas when I was 10 or 11. I actually started playing it around 12. He showed me some nirvana songs from the nevermind album. I learned the whole album in like a couple weeks starting with “come as you are”. I asked my brother for something a little more difficult that had more guitar solo stuff in it. He gave me Appetite for Destruction and I was obsessed. Really loved the energy and the antagonistic style hahaha teenager fuel. By 14 I loved and learned a lot of Slash Gnr stuff. Enjoyed a lot of Use Your Illusions 1&2. Feel in love with a lot of other bands and guitar players. Notable ones being Smashing Pumpkins,Soundgarden/Audioslave/Rage Against the Machine. You know all those kinda bands. Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains. Also liked Motley Crue and the Scorpions cuz of my dad and bro. Oh yeah forgot to mention my dad loved Richie Blackmore. He still to this day thinks he’s the absolute best. But yeah around this time I found Slashes Snakepitt and I dug a lot of that music to. Two albums of that and then I was about 15 found Velvet Revolver. I love GNR and also loved Stp so this was like WHATTTT!!!!!!. I remember being in summer school(skipped skool a lot to play guitar instead) and told the teacher I was goin to the bathroom. My school had cable on the TVs (I have no clue why) and most of the classes were empty except for the few that were teaching summer school. So I walked into an empty class and turned on the TV and turned the channel to MTV and it was perfect timing. The music video for Come On Come In(the song VR did for the Fantastic Four Movie) started right that second. One of my greatest life experiences lol. Another one was years later I was at a Slash ft Myles an the Conspirators concert and some dickhead threatened to hit my gf if she tried to move any closer to the stage. And I had already been drinking and heard that an the switch went and I lunged at the guy. I was in the third row and only my gf and the woman he was with were between us but I’m tall at 6”3 and he was actually very short but very stocky and it didn’t look like fat. So as I was going over the woman at him we all got grabbed up by security(I give House of Blues Atlantic City NJ Security Props and Utmost respect because I didn’t even get close to hitting the guy before I got grabbed. The crowd stuck up for me that heard what he said to my gf and when I say crowd I mean like 30 people that were directly surrounding us that heard what he said and he an his woman companion got kicked out and me an my gf took his spot an then got to the very front row. Right in front of Slashes Wah Wah pedal so every time he played a solo with Wah (there’s a bunch) he was right in front of me. A few years after that and I was telling that story at a rehab I was in in Pennsylvania (the concert was in New Jersey) and one of the counselors overheard and interrupted me and told me he was there at that same show right behind me and he was one of the crowd members that stuck up for me and my gf. What are the odds. Then my fiancé had me realize that the names of Slashes solo albums relate to how my life was going when the said albums came out. Apocalyptic Love(was in a horribly toxic relationship)World On Fire(Got involved with Heroin and was physically addicted for about 3 years with many more years before that using other Mind/Mood altering substances)Living the Dream(now have 3 years clean and have plans to be married) Now his new album is called 4(we just recently moved to a new place and the address is 4444) pretty wild to me at least. Been listening to slash more than half my life and couldn’t imagine not hearing his guitar tone or having not stolen many of his licks changing them and incorporating parts of them into other parts I play. He’s a serious inspiration. Woooow sorry for the long ass KZbin comment that probably no one will read. Hey if anyone makes it all the way threw this leave a reply lol.
