Jeff Gordon encounters early trouble, quite a few times, but manages to mount a comeback for the ages, does he have a chance to win?

reminds me of michigan a few years ago when they pulled the rear bumper off the 42 car of Larson and he all the sudden became a rocket ship

Ironically, I was 16 as well when they ran this race. I remember those 20th anniversary hendrick schemes for all 5 drivers. I was like ain't no way he's that fast with no back end on the car

Ironically enough, the 48 wasn'y very good all day either, when it came time to win...he showed up, so did the 24, somehow!!

@@Racejudge24I’ll tell what would’ve happened if Waltrip didn’t crash and bring out the caution….Jeff would have passed him on the bottom coming off of 4, and then Jeff would have set said and won the race.

I remember this race!! I can’t believe it’s not talked about more! I went to bed that night and when I saw the finishing order I didn’t believe it.

Dude, I was just amazed...I remember being so mad/disappointed, then when we passed Tony Stewart, and he was like 10 places ahead of us, and I was shocked, then we got the lucky dog!

I can't believe they brung the same car back that they ran in the 600. I remember the 600 and he was 7, 8 laps down

@@jaronwelch8264 Yeah...that was a life changing day for me, Jeff seemed to be invincible prior! But, full disclosure, this was also the same car that led all day at Michigan, before blowing up, and you heard the Chicago story.. Just a race of perseverance!

I believe Jeff would have gotten him it the caution didn’t come out I think I was 13 when this race happened good memories I got to see Jeff race all the way through his career to me he is the true 7 time 04 07 2014 missing championships

I was at this race. I was 13 and a huge Jeff Gordon fan. I loved how people at the track were dogging him early on in the race watching him to continue to go around the track under caution for repairs only for him to nearly pull it off. Gordon was hated in the mid 2000s

This is one of my favorite races ever, what a fight….imagine if Waltrip didn’t crash!?

Heh, I remember watching that one. The car was junk until it got wrecked, then it came alive!

I swear my hands hurt from clapping for the next week. I wasn’t even mad Jimmie smoked us on the restart, I was pumped at the comeback😂.

Gordon is the goat, Jimmie couldn't win without chad.

Been wanting to do this race justice, for quite sometime!!

I truly thought he was dead in the water after Wallace hit him but after seeing him methodically fight his way back I thought he was gonna take the lead. That damn caution with like 10 to go really killed it. To finish 2nd after crashing was a remarkable performance!

Crashed twice!! I thought we were done after we got damage, and was running 30th, on pace. Then we got destroyed by Rusty…a great race for us to remember, which crazy 2nd place should I do next?

No rear bumper cover helped him out there

There's a reason why NASCAR now has it as a rule that the rear bumper stays on. It's basically free lunch with the old car to take it off. I struggle to think of a car that didn't become much faster after taking off just the rear bumper in a race. Mark Martin at Spring Martinsville 2009 comes to mind to show just how ridiculous it was.

2009 was the COT, this was Gen 4, but what a crazy night…I was thoroughly entertained.

Such a shame Kahne crashed or Jimmie Johnson would’ve ended up 2nd

Take that rear bumper off and gain a bunch of downforce
