Criminally under-appreciated guitarist. He has a couple of mild hits in the 80's, and even had an appearance in Road house...... but his success has no bearing on just how good he is.

I had left a ZZTop concert...wasn't feeling it...with my brother and stopped at a local bar that has live music. Small little dance floor with a nobody just about to start his set. We ordered a couple of tequilas and some rum and cokes. The musician turned out to be a wizard, it was Jeff. One of the best sets I have ever heard! Made even better by being such an unexpected event. Rest in peace

I think being blind also probably helped him to play well musically. He's hearing sense is probably better because he doesn't have visual connection when he's playing and he's focus is in the sounds. He's playing is incredible and emotional. Singing of course as well.

I had the pleasure of seeing Jeff countless times at his 'hole in the wall' basement club in Toronto. Thursday night's Jeff with his house band and guest artists. Edgar Winter showed up one night. What many people don't know is that Jeff was an accomplished trumpet playing avid Jazz lover who played every Saturday afternoon at his club. He had one of the largest collection of old Jazz records on the planet handed down by his father. He also hosted a jazz show on 91.1 Jazz fm in Toronto where he showcased his Jazz collection. So happy many are now discovering the genius of Jeff Healey

Jeff Healey impressed me in 90-s when i 1st heard and saw him performing and his cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps inspired me ever since. He is so good in any song he plays thats it even hard to listen to him for long. I mean you get so much emotions right away so its like one-two songs from him and you ready to go accomplish whatever you need to accomplish. I am so sad that such an amazing talented man had so many horrable health problems and died so young. I have no idea if anybody else can ever reproduce the style of his guitar-playing and even in his short amount of time spent with us I think Jeff will be appreciated by many upcoming generations.

Contrary to the belief that he played the guitar in his lap because he was blind, which is NOT true, he has said in multiple interviews it was because when he was first learning to play. His reach was shorter and he found it easier to play it with flat in his lap and it just stuck. 😀

Travis, did you have to pick your jaw up off the floor?! Suzie just looked in complete awe the whole song! I've seen Jeff (RIP!) live a couple times (I live about an hour outside of Toronto, his home town, and he frequented our area enough time - especially with Blues festivals!) He is the REAL deal - the licks he pulls out, coupled with the 'feel' he gives the songs is just incredible (which lends to the fact that blind people have to use their other senses - he exemplifies that!) There's so many tracks I'd recommend checking out. See The Light, Angeleyes (really beautiful ballad), they do their own cover version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, which is wonderful. One time in concert they did a cover of Sunshine Of Your Love (by Cream), which absolutely ripped!! You can't really go wrong with Jeff - I wish he were still around to share his insane gift with us!

Some fun facts.... He only played on his lap because it was more comfortable for him. He could also play traditionally, behind his head, with his teeth, etc. He was an accomplished trumpet player. He also acted/had a cameo in the movie Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze. He certainly squeezed a lot of life into his 41 short years.

The saddest thing about him is, he's we'll known in Canada where he's from, and around the world. However he has never gotten the credit he deserves for bringing a different style of guitar playing to up front and in your face. I have rarely had conversations with people who know about him period, let alone his musicianship. I have known of his music since he started back in the early '80's.

This was around 1994-95. Blew me away that the dude was blind and played like that! Musically and in other ways, my hero and the world became a sadder place when cancer took him away from us.
