Hats off to the gangster who pointed his camera directly at the ABSOLUTELY NO RECORDING sign and captured this magic.

MT is a Monster Legend Guitar Player, it's so nice to see Gary because I met him back in 1990 playing with Chick Correa in Connecticut. He is a very COOL CAT, I never forget that my little brother couldn't make it and he took one set of sticks and signed em and he still have em, LOL, 👍👍😍😍😍😄😄😄🤗🤗🤗

Hi Edward, when you say Mike's out of his depth can you tell me what you are listening for? my ears are still in the process of learning what to listen for in terms of a players ability...in other words I think he sounds good to me...

The only thing I hear is that he obviously has a different time in his head than the others.

@@jamesplasencia I think he means he seems to lack a bit of the harmonic complexity of some of the other guys in this video, in terms of lead work. Nothing wrong with what he's playing at all. Hey they asked him to do the gig, they wouldn't have done that if they didn't like what he has to say, it's not like there's a shortage of great players where they are!
@jamesplasencia
@jamesplasencia 4 жыл бұрын
@@BenFletcherGuitar now that revisited this video i hear more of a rock approach from Mike the guitarist a more pentatonic and blues scales sound some outside playing not a lot...i think someone like a Frank Gambale would have taken a more fusion approach...
@BenFletcherGuitar
@BenFletcherGuitar 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamesplasencia Absolutely, Frank is a monster player! Because you mentioned him, I just had a look to see if he'd played with Jimmy Haslip and incredibly I couldn't find anything. I did find this though, which is the same venue and again with Novak on drums...kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4KaZHV-rMaDfrc Certainly illustrates that different approach!

I wish bass players would stop singing along with their solos. So many of them are doing that these days. I believe they might be trying to show that they are playing what they are hearing in their head and not just running patterns. But it's a total distraction to me unless you can actually sing like Richard Bona.... don't do it.It doesn't make your solo sound any better Jimmy Haslip of all people ...I don't think he used to do that, why now?

I agree with your sentiment. These vocal noises are deemed to convey intensity and seriousness of purpose. In fact, they are an indication of fashion following, and are utterly contrived.

Hate to say this, but many pianists do and did this from Bud Powell to Keith Jarret and of course, George Benson turned it into an artform....Just sayin'.
