George Duke just cracks me up. I love to watch and hear him in these videos. He is having SO much fun and has that sly grin on his face. Watch him with Billy Cobham on some of those videos. I like Jeff Lorber very much, too, but look at George. He is havin a blast and seems like he always does. There's a reason why so many artists want to work with George Duke. He is an unbelievable talent.

Bor4enceto Recently we had some jerk who played a mean sax say online: F**k Wayne Shorter, then as good as this jerk was he faded into obscurity. These comparing f**kheads don't get the spirit of jazz so like fleas at a picnic they have to be tolerated.
@paxwallacejazz6 жыл бұрын
Marchaund I love Shorter big composition influence for me but hey in jazz everyone fades away and doesn't get the recognition they deserve. There never were any good old days for Jazz. Look in any large town you can find truly world class cats teaching at the community college and/or hosting jam sessions playing studio gigs teaching privately etc. You don't know their names.

Well it is Lorber's song after all, but he just ain't as funky as George that's for sure. George had soul and funk, Jeff not so much.

Jeff Lorber 'predictable phrasing' and 'passionate' expression (I love that!) make him a icon in jazz pop smooth, an absolute winner of hearts to jazz nowadays, Jeff brings jazz to the masses!! and while I love and enjoy different jazz pianist styles, Jeff is stone grabbed in a honor place in my listening experience. And Gorge Duke! Another great jazz pop titan! definitely a keyboard and synthesizer innovator whom is a incredible piano player, also important of my influences spectrum.

How can it get better than this! GD & JL
@professorbright392714 жыл бұрын
JL uses his technical ability right away to express his speed,dirty sound that is very bluesy, predictable phrasing,very passionate and delivers a rollercoaster ride...... GD relaxes,lays back, builds his solo slower, tells the story with a awesome Build point, uses Harmony to complement the solo lines,some would consider his solo more meaningful or Tastier because he seems to always leave "SPACE" he lets his solos breath...

Not much of a fan of bass solos (and I'm a bass player), but if you're gonna give the bass a solo, at least lay back and don't step all over it, bit surprised by this from such great players. Fabulous playing as always Brian. Love you George RIP.

I was lost for words seeing this. Thx for your comment! I play bass, too, and love solos by any instrument if they are played with soul and talent 😁
@professorbright392714 жыл бұрын
@otaama I am humbled every time I hear a master improviser like GD and JL. The result is normally a well played solo but GD and JL approach the story from a very different perspective. I like the space, taste and harmonic structure that GD uses, verse Speed that JL uses. I am learning from guys like you all the time, trying to improve my craft. Having played the piano for over 30 years, I can tell you it is still a lot of work. Thanks for teaching me. Professor of Music/WJU Victor Bright

I will tell you what. It's not about showmanship or comp, but the shit GD puts down, abstract harmonically, starting at 4:05 is the real shit. It's beyond us all and so, so inspiring and intellectual in linking to emotional tension and release. Too much. Jeff and George are up there on the top.
@tegknox26945 жыл бұрын
Watching this again for like the 20th time, GD is a powerhouse, who can park the notes perfectly across the scale. The tune gains so much when he starts up. The third sentence in your comment, starting with "It's beyond" is a masterpiece. If you are not a creator of music, words or other.... You should be.

George coming from a good friend and piano player downunder, Howlin' Bob Howlett, grew up with George. The mod's he did to his instruments were a big part of his able to achieve such wonderful innovation. I'll see if I can remember what they were. Filter pedals for the Arp. And something for the Rhodes.
