His agent didn’t tell Freddie about the final Braves offer which would have paid him more money than the dodger and he found out THIS WEEKEND. That’s why the agent got fired and he would still be a brave if his agent didn’t do this. That’s why he is so emotional

Literally, exactly as one of the other commenters said, Freddie's agent, Casey Close, did not disclose to Freddie the Braves' final offer, as well as did not tell Freddie about the ultimatum Close gave to Alex Anthopolous. Casey Close absolutely went around his client's back, and negotiated against his client's wishes, to benefit his self. Freddie expressed so, so many times, over and over, in the press throughout the post-season and after the Series, that he had no wish to go anywhere else, he 100% intended to retire a Brave, and he trusted that his agent would work in his interest to get him the best deal. This is completely messed up, this guy Casey Close deserves to lose every single client he has, ESPECIALLY one very big one, Dansby Swanson. Dansby needs to fire this man IMMEDIATELY, if not sooner.

@@michaelomalley9992 Freddie's agent was saying (lying) to the Braves, "Other teams have offered us X dollars. Match that or else we're signing elsewhere." AA didn't have enough payroll to match that, so he went out and made a deal for Matt Olson before somebody else scooped him up. From AA's perspective, his choices were: Trade for Matt Olson or sign a scrub free agent to play first base.
@mikeybeeee07

I knew something was off with these negotiations when we kept hearing reporting saying the Tampa Bay RAYS were still in the mix for Freddie just like a week before Freddie had to sign with LA. Even the Blue Jays were in the mix. The Blue Jays who have one of the best first basemen in all of baseball are in the mix for Freddie Freeman? His representation was doing anything they could to drive up the price and start a bidding war with the Yankees and Dodgers. The second Atlanta traded for Matt Olson Freddie's side lost all leverage and had to start stirring up rumors to get more teams interested.

In all fairness, Vlad could theoretically move to 3rd, or they could share 1B and DH. Now Vlad was a touch below average, -3 DRS in 96 games, granted he hasn't played much game at 3rd in 3 years, he's also a lot more fit now than he was in 19 so I'm willing to bet that a touch below average defense is fine and would be expected if they did that.

Freddie could have stayed in Atlanta, he took the most $$$, even if he didn't know of Atlanta's "final offer", he should know an agent will ALWAYS angle toward HIS biggest payday, not necessarily Freddie's wish to stay a Brave. So, take less $$$ and stay, you are already filthy rich, just stay, FFS, you ARE the Braves. You climbed the mountain to a World Series victory....then you leave?

@@N1120A well Freeman will play 81 in LA (dodgers home games) 10 in SD, and 10 in SF. that's at least 100 of 162 each year and they play 2 at LAA this year. so 102 games in California with the higher taxes. the braves would play 10 games total vs LAD, SD, and SF in California. they also play a series in OAk this year.

This is a copium firing by Freddie. Sure the Braves upped their offer...by $1M a year, or 3.7%. That's miniscule, and still far away from what Freeman and his team were seeking in dollars and years. I highly highly doubt Freddie would have taken that even if his agent told him. If he thinks that it's pure revisionist history. He wanted a 6th year, which the Dodgers offered and he accepted.

They offered a 6th year but basically the same dollar figure I would rather make my money in 5 years than 6. also freeman gets a bunch deferred. 57 million deferred. he basically is getting 17.5 million and paying more taxes for it. vs. 27-28 million for the braves

Pretty telling how highly the Braves guys haven’t really had a big embrace with him, and have spoke about Olson who’s asked to do a tough job fillin Freddie’s shoes. With the Acuña stuff, and the buzz behind the scenes seeming to to imply that Freddie was much more of an unlikable diva with young Braves than the media portrayed him as the teams leader, makes it interesting to see a fan favorite supposed legend receive cold treatment from the clubhouse and management and even Kershaw afterwards.
