(and future Ghost Island-esque returning advantages) 43:30 - Discussing the 26 vs. 39 day game 44:22 - Discussing how food negotiations happen, and whether medical ever gets involved around the lack of food/starvation 47:25 - Jeff explains what he'd be best at in challenges 53:45 - Jeff discusses physical challenges, like Schmergen Brawl and the rules behind physical contact in challenges 55:15 - How are contestants protected from interrupting other players' confessionals 56:50 - Tribe camp logistics: How close are the tribe camps and what is a normal day for production (number of crew members per camp, etc) 59:13 - Jeff's scariest moment as a producer 1:01:39 - Jeff's recommendations for seasons to binge (HvV, DvG, MvGX, Pearl Islands, China, Philippines, Cambodia, Australia) and why not to start with Borneo 1:05:00 - Casting tidbits: If you could Frankenstein the perfect contestant, who would it be? 1:09:34 - Jeff commenting on how Russell would have to adjust his game for the new era

What a tip top episode. Smart, funny and insightful bunch of lads. Would never have dreamed in a millions years I’d be watching my favourite hobbits and J. Probst in the same room chatting. I feel like you’ve intensely satisfied a very niche group of super fans (LOTR & Survivor) with this content. 10/10. Also glad Billy snuck in the final comment about the aesthetic (positive feel/environmental/escapism) of the show and that Jeff appreciated it. Its an important reason I still love watching after 43 seasons.

I think the best would be to start from the beginning, because the evolution of the show makes you really appreciate how the meta has progressed from "let's just try to survive and the most likeable person wins" to "the person who played the best game wins", because the human element makes everything still so unpredictable.

I've watched every season, season 40 was really good, it had all past winners competing against each other. The dynamic of that season was crazy. Also the Africa season is the most brutal season. They were just a few hundred yards away from lions, and NO food in the desert.

What a great episode. Love the positivity. I sent in an audition tape for Survivor around 10 years ago and listening to the show here and looking back on it, I can’t remember 100% what I said, but I think I’d probably do it a little differently now. I’d be honest about my weaknesses (I hate camping for one thing… I may have even said so in the video) but I could have sold my strengths better too. I probably came off a little too stiff as I was anxious to do the best I could in a short amount of time. If I were to do it again now, I wouldn’t feel that way; it’d be more of a “this is me, take it or leave it.” I haven’t watched the show for a few years and I think I may have to to tune back in and see how it’s evolved. I’m also a former sound mixer and through industry connections in my area I’ve talked with the one of the original sound mixers (Tony) on the show a few times (we’d trade jobs and equipment every once in a while). A really good guy and probably enjoying his time back home these days. He never had a bad thing to say about the production and how it was run. I can’t remember any “behind the scenes” stories that would shock you; just a tough job in the jungle, but ultimately a rewarding experience.

Billy: "Well that's going OK and the time machine's coming on and all." Haha! If anyone could invent either of those things, it'd be you two 😉😂 Great episode! As someone who has never watched Survivor, it was really interesting learning about the show and what goes into making it! I also loved seeing how excited Dom was to talk about it 😊 Jeff was a very neat guest! In all honesty, I've never watched an episode of Survivor (nothing against it, will just opt for scripted stuff over reality TV...apart from So You Think You Can Dance which I LOVE)....BUT I'm so intrigued, the psychological aspects sound fascinating -- not to mention the beauty of FIJI, as they discussed. My TV list is miles long but I'll see if I can get to some of it! I really love the show and I've been following since the first episode - actually, since it was first announced. I've been talking excitedly about it to people and urging them to give the podcast a listen. But a lot of people give up on the first try. And lately, it's been bothering me too. The show started off as a kind of podcast, but right now I feel like it's a host show that is also available to listen to. There are a few attempts by you guys to explain what's happening to "the listeners", but most of the time the show is really not inclusive for people treating it as a podcast and having only audio. The issue is also that there are fun things happening on screen that I would like to see, but if I only have time to listen - I'll feel frustrated. Maybe it's time to stop calling the show a podcast, or otherwise actually treat it as a podcast. I believe that this genre ambiguity also affects the number of people attempting to tune in with expectations of a specific genre. I think you guys are great, and I really do enjoy following along every week. All the best

To be honest I prefer less twists, they keep adding things that dictate the game and keep certain players safe when they would've been voted out. I don't mind redemption island, or tribe swaps but they give us more and more stuff that interferes and its frustrating. Thats why I prefer the Australian Survivor.
@ChloeSucksAt Жыл бұрын
Australian survivor is just as bad with the twists. Not to mention convenient idol finds for contestants they want to save. I like Australian survivor don’t get me wrong, but it is very similar to the crap American survivor is pulling in the new era.

Learned so much from this podcast. Watched it completely. The only issue that Survivor has right now is the woke casting culture, I like that Jeff addressed that and hope they get back to bringing normal people back and not just cast them because of their sexual orientation or/ representation. Watching Survivor US S46 right now, and I have to say that Australian Survivor is killing it right now, their casting is so much better. They cast alphas, models, intelligent people, dumb people, and they are all normal, no weird shit, and it works great, so fun to watch, it is far less woke. Aside from that, Jeff giving some great advice is fantastic, lots of wisdom.

I don't disagree with the "guys" decision, but the force behind it will take a mile when you give an inch. That is my issue.

Go back to Survivor: All Stars. The water in the well was contaminated. They needed fire to boil it and turn it into clean water. They didnt have clean water for the first 3 or 4 episodes. I remember Rudy drinking the dirty water like a real survivor. Now the producers give the players fresh water at the start. So the fact that Jeff has the nerve to say that the "new era" of survivor is harder and more deprived from old survivor is laughable. Survivor Africa had lion encounters and buffalo encounters. Am i the only one that is annoyed by the new era of "the hardest seasons ever?"
