What's it have at the wheels for power ? Was it worth getting a wrx and spending 10 grand instead of a STI

A WRX Limited after markups comes to about STi money. I got mine new for less than what the people in my area pay for a base or used premium. And for that much a steal, the WRX was always going to be more bang for the buck. As an overall car, I do think the WRX is the better car. The engine is better (no more ringland or oil starvation, equal length headers and twin scroll for better power characteristics, direct inject), wheels are lighter, tires are the same, the ride is far more livable, it's cheaper to maintain and sustain (between oil, gas, brake pads, insurance), and it's got a pretty solid transmission now too. The STi is way overpriced for what you get if you ask me. WRX base is more appropriate. The only STi component I want is the transmission. But the WRX one is really good. Weakest link in it is the axles but I'd rather replace axles than gears and clutches. Plus axles can be life time warrantied ;) And truth is, if you were gonna spend $10K on a WRX, you were gonna spend it on an STi too. And it's far better spent on the WRX.

Question for Jeff; why did you choose the WRX route over the STI? Couldn't have been the money since a fully loaded Limited is only about $2k under an STI. I also went with the fully loaded Limited WRX mostly because of the new engine and the fact that my intention was getting a good daily driver, not a gas guzzler track car.

with all the options I got, a base model STi was actually slightly cheaper. I chose the wrx because of the new motor, fuel economy, way cheaper insurance, and the wicked torque curve of the FA20

you have to open the headlights up and get a little creative with the wiring and modify the brackets for the demon eyes.

That's crazy I always thought people bought STI's to save gas......People that buy them I'm sure don't buy them for the gas saving aspect of the car. People that mod WRX's I'm sure get horrible gas mileage also. I will agree with you on the STI engine being old though.

+bumatlarge51 the car gets like 17 mpg city, drive it hard it will be like 13-15. sometimes people don't know the impact until they brought the car. modding a car doesn't really bring down the mileage. I have a 335 coupe and Audi A4 both fast with minor mods but gas mileage is awesome. as a matter of fact I stayed away from the M3 8 cylinder because I hate making the GAS companies richer and me poorer

I will agree with you that not all mods cause a negative affect on mpg's. I'm just going back to my original comment on how I see a lot of WRX's with STI trunk swaps, Brembo big brake kits, and power mods. But what I don't get is your gas company comment while owning two cars that run on gas.

+bumatlarge51 my 335 coupe is scary being RWD and peak torque coming so early in the RPM. can't drive it in the winter cause of that and it's to low with the sport suspension. the ride is very harsh also maybe cause the run flat tires. The A4 is Awd is my daily driver. If I got the WRX I would put the STi wing on and put enough work so it does high 12s at least. if I did that then I'll g get rid of the audi or maybe both.
