I love the '15 WRX and it is an intelligently tuned car, capable of winning at the track and being a daily driver. Something I want for my older WRX. It's a tribute to Chris' skills and expertise that he gets this much more out of an already stellar platform.
@kai_001238 жыл бұрын
The stock suspension is actually pretty composed and does a pretty darn good job for being an all-around setup. You won't break lap records, but you'll feel like a track hero. It's very impressive what Subaru did to the suspension compared to previous gens.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
Agreed, the suspension on the latest gen is far superior to the older gens.
@JesseCarmichaelAutos8 жыл бұрын
Crazy to think that's on stock suspension, although I really was impressed with the stock WRX

did you try a lap staying in 3rd in some of those corners instead of downshifting to 2nd? I feel like the torque would be enough to go a bit faster by staying in 3rd but I'm behind a keyboard instead of there.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
This is exactly how Chris drives, 3rd everywhere except one corner. Dave should have taken his advice but he's old and stubborn.
@cfunicelli8 жыл бұрын
garrett2jz as I was watching it I was thinking stay in third stay in third stay in third! I have a '16 and the torque starts at 2-3krpm more than enough to roll around that track in 3rd and saving time on all the shifts.

just some pads on 4 corners will double the brake response and initial bite.
@TougeTuning8 жыл бұрын
LastHumansGarage the car actually was having pad knock back which we discovered at the end of the day when Chris and Dave chatted about their laps.
@LastHumansGarage8 жыл бұрын
not familiar with the term, but do you mean the retaining clips were broken, which keep the pads in place properly in between braking? I switched to Stoptech last week, and the first day it felt like going to Brembos in feel. But now I'm used to it.. way better than stock for like $100.
@TougeTuning8 жыл бұрын
LastHumansGarage it's when the pads get pushed away from the rotor, usually during a corner where the hub deflects. When the pads wear down this can become an issue on track and you have to pump the pedal between corners to get the pressure back. Fresh pads and a good clean and lube fixes it usually unless your pistons are sticking.
@LastHumansGarage8 жыл бұрын
ah ya, thanks for the tips. funny how the oem retainer clips job is to push the pads away from the rotor when not braking, yet it has the opposite feature when pads get worn down.

I've been eyeballing Touge Tuning as a Canadian source for Subaru parts, I live in Edmonton so they'd still have to be shipped but at least it's nice to know they've got a decent reputation. (There isn't really anywhere in Edmonton that sells stuff in-stock and I've heard weird things about the place in Red Deer, so might as well buy from Ontario.)
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
Chris and the guys at Touge are great with customer service and I'm sure they'd be happy to ship to Edmonton. Give them a call!

300 is very safe on 2015. My 01 runs 304hp on dyno tune on 18psi. on (98ron). PS a Gc8 with over 400hp would monster that 2015 theres a 300kg or so diff. Good luck with the build. once you start moding it never stops.

is there some reason why a nice set of coilovers isn't in the plans?
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
Chris has prioritized ride comfort since this is his daily driver, but with the slippery slope that comes with building a competitive track car, we wouldn't be too surprised if he caves to the lap timer and throws some coilovers on there eventually. Right Chris? :D
@TougeTuning8 жыл бұрын
Bob Last we're tackling things based on weak points identified on track. Rather then just "throwing the book at it", we're taking a step by step approach.
@boblast55828 жыл бұрын
Touge Tuning so it needs an sti trans more than coilovers? also, why not just start with an STi in the first place? well I guess there's the 3 decade old EJ...
@TougeTuning8 жыл бұрын
Bob Last the open diffs on the WRX are really holding the car back and I don't really want to lower the car. The reason for starting with the WRX was us wanting to work with the new FA20DIT motor.
@boblast55828 жыл бұрын
Touge Tuning you can get coilovers that don't lower the car... also I should mention, I'd not saying you're wrong or anything, just curious about your direction with the car
