A fantastic angle on how to approach practice. The differentiation between the instrumental and musical practice is a very valid one. And I love the way you describe long note practice as meditative. That's a really helpful way of looking at it. I've discovered your videos during lockdown, so glad I found them!

Appreciate you Jeff! I can say with certainty that you are the finest online teacher of the alto sax that I've come across. You have helped my live performance immensely. Very hard to explain everything you are teaching in this context w/o being able to actually be with the student and expand. Thanks for doing what you do!

I really agree with your perspective on getting good at your instrument vs getting good at music. When I go to schools all i see is people only trying to get good at their instrument but not nearly as many people are trying to get good at music.

5:19 Attention! Intention! That's it! Each note needs to have the same attention paid to it if you want to play intentionally. ie. leaving as little to chance, as possible. I'd even go as far as to link 5:19 to your intro: every moment of your long tone deserves the same amount of attention. Best warm-up video, ever. :)

Hey Jeff. Once again, a great video, but I have a possible question. How should I work on switching between keys in jazz and becoming comfortable in doing so? I've heard some excellent musicians accomplish this easily, but I don't know where to start. If you could give some advice, that'd be great!
@JeffSchneiderMusic8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Can you specify a bit more about what you mean by switching keys. Just want to make sure I understand your question fully.
@evanqo70838 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff. Sorry for the confusing and indirect question. I guess what I mean is, what is a good strategy for transitioning into different keys while soloing, or chords if you will? It seems like when I solo, for instance, if I play a Cmin7 and want to change to an Fmin7, it doesn't seem to work out, although very great musicians can accomplish this no problem. I just need a good strategy to be able to do this, and if you could help me out, that'd be great! Also, what is a good technique to practice Jazz on my own and gradually become better? I have honestly had little experiences with soloing, but I want to become better over the summer, as I love Jazz saxophone a lot. Lessons kind of cost a bit too much and I was curious on how you became so good. All tips are appreciated! Thanks!

Hey man I was curious when you practice do you ever let yourself just blow and have fun in the beginning of your practice? Implying you have enough time? Was wondering if it was a bad habit.

Hey Jeff! Always glad to watch your videos, good sources of inspiration. You talk about the difference between warm up and practising music: you proberbly covered aspects of the subject in other videos, but can you ellaborate a little on that?(: how you practice or get in to music)

+Jeff Schneider huge bordering on stupid. The first thing that comes to mind is focus. I remember the video you posted where you spoke of how practice should hurt. When it happens, I feel so thankful to reach that state. Sometimes I just cant seem to get there. Tell me jeff, do you agree that our goal as improviers to be able to sing with our fingers? Or is it more of just keeping a clear mind as we play? ive been thinking about this question for the past couple of days.

Hi Jeff, do we have to do long-note on every single note or just one?
@JeffSchneiderMusic6 жыл бұрын
Every note can’t hurt, but one note for each register works well if you’re short on time.
@abdulmubdibindar18436 жыл бұрын
Man wow you really do reply, i thought you won't even look at this video anymore. Thank you.. So you are saying that doing long note for only C but in 3 octaves is sufficient for practicing, right? And one more, please, if you haven't done it, please make a video about your suggestion or your behavior about daily practice. What should be done, or at least why you do on your regular practice. Thank you very much, again. Keep inspiring!
