I am the last of Karriems black belts and it is good that this was posted. Jeff Smith was one of only a few white guys (just being honest lol) we respected. A man who could fight!

@@michaelmuhammad6844this was karriems only kickboxing fight at that time Jeff smith had like twenty and not counting his tournament wins. imagine if KARRIEM HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. K.A. WAS AHEAD OF HIS TIME EVERYTHING HE DID WAS RIGHT A GREAT TEACHER AND MARTIAL ARTIS.

@@julioramos5615 You are correct. During that time K.A. was more of an instructor and wasn't competing as much. He was in an unfamiliar setting.

@@johnbell7579 lol this is nothing! You should check out this guy's channel lol eventhough gotta say he got some valuable things there. As far as Karim goes, sorry! - but judging by this fight he couldn't carry Ali's jockstrap. Too slow on his feet or maybe the other guy is just too quick and looping punches.

Tom G: Could not see your comment on this video IN this forum, but I want to respond here. It is you guys who are our "contact" brothers. I remember being pissed because there were not videos with real karate being displayed and I found Elwyn Hall! We had a fighter called Mylo Thompson that fought just like that. Frank Brennan, Christopher, Best, The UK was full of real contact fighters. Salute.

@@sufuhashim2092 You are correct, sir. I remember Mylo Thompson who is Kevin Thompson's brother. Kevin was known as Little Ka back in the day and there is also another brother by the name of Earl Thompson . All 3 brothers were the original students of Karriem Allah who had a karate school in Newark, New Jersey back in the late 60's /early to mid 70's on Springfield Ave. Those were the days, man...I remember when another instructor by the name of James Fain who also had a karate school in Newark fought Karriem in an event that took place at the YMCA in downtown Newark.

also there was a black belt from KA that came to a tournament we had named Wazir i believe, that was about 50 years ago. the same tournament Earl Thomas knocked down a master who doubted the KA System. it was a real fight, I can not remember how it got broken up, those were some days

@@sufuhashim2092 The K.A. System produced some outstanding fighters which along with the Thompson brothers Included another gentleman known as "Happy Crump" (I don't remember his real name) who was an incredible kick technician who reminded me of New York Kyokushinkai karate stylist William Oliver. Kevin "Little KA" Thompson was known not only for his sparring abilities but also his weapon and kata forms of which he amassed a sizeable number of trophies over those years that he competed in major tournaments mostly on the East Coast. Kevin opened his own school on South 10th street (I lived on South 11th St. back then) in Newark but he eventually had to let it go after awhile when he moved to West Orange and was focused solely on competing in various tournaments along with his team known as "Shakil's Warriors". Sadly Kevin passed away from ALS In January of last year...

@joekerr5057 According to Motobu Choki, Shotokan Karate is a far cry from Koryu Te or old-style Karate of pre-19th century because they ditched Jiyu/Jissen Kumite (freestyle sparring or free fighting) and cross training in Tegumi (native wrestling from Okinawa) when they imported Karate into mainland Japan. If you check out old manuals from Pre-WW2 periods like the Bubishi manual and "Karate Jutsu: Kumite", it's like the comparison between medieval swordfighting and olympic fencing.

@joekerr5057 I know they didn't get to the top based on that historical source you showed. But I wrote my previous comment not to defend those two. What I meant is that Shotokan was already an absurd downgrade from its Okinawan predecessors (For example, Shorin ryu Karate) because the founder of Shotokan had this weird ass idea that Karate shouldn't have full contact matches for pacifcism and stated Kata is more important kumite or sparring. Joe Lewis told in an interview that Okinawan Karate still had full-contact kumite called Bogu Kumite when he studied Karate in Okinawa. That explained why there are historical sources that the founder of Shotokan got his ass kicked by Motobu from the previous generation of Okinawan Karate.

Tremendous effort by these guys. They were laying a foundation. Breaking out of old dead worn out ineffective training and techniques. . Those punches I know tightened up over the coming yrs as the sport evolved.. Now off to startpage. Or some where to find more info Tho I know a little more of Smith. But not much.. Thx

This was very early full contact fighting days, and the guys did as best they could (most came from silly nonsense slap sparring sloppy point Karate)at that time Muitaikickboxing guys, would have hospitalized any of these guys, yet live and learn, point sparring was nonsense and real fighting guys were trying to venture into more realistic combat sports so good on them, cheers

Alas they've come for Dr. SEUSS, they wish to hang him with a noose. They claim his tales were racist bent, they judged him fast, missed what he meant. But if we look inside his tales, you'll find the balance of the scales. Remember when Horton heard a Who, and we heard the wisdom of the Lorax too. The lesson behind Green Eggs and Ham, that changed the mind of Sam I am. Remember too the rotten Grinch, who once would never give an inch. He taught us lessons, one and all, boys and girls, big and small. So if you've judged his works as poor, you should re- read them, I implore. The man we know as Dr. SEUSS, turned our imaginations loose. His impact was beyond compare, he taught us it was good to care. To accept the red, the blue, the green, and on each other we can lean. So if you still won't give an inch, your heart has hardened like the Grinch. Release the grudge, the hate, the rue, and embrace the hope of Cindy Lou. We support the Seuss!!! Feel free to copy and share it, we did! Copied and shared from #postchallenge
