Good review, not really my cup of tea but it did peek my interest in looking at the effect this is based on, it's called "Drawing Conclusions" and it can be found in The Collected Almanac by Richard Kaufman.

Same. I love reading anything from Max Maven. I have a ton of his stuff, and Richard's Almanac is on my wish list. One of these days I'll grab it. :0] I will say, however, if you're interested in the Maven (i.e., original) version, Ong as made the method better. It "fixes" a little "something" that makes it much better. It would have to be in order for Max to allow Ong to publish it . . . and it is.

@@StoneColdMagic I'm going to freely admit that I am a far bigger fan of his card material, my absolute favorite book is "Focus", it contains some absolutely diabolical card effects.

@@liberalguy513 - For sure. I have Focus, and the entire LISP series and a bunch of other little booklets. I even have the original color books plus PRISM. There are so many gems in his work that so many people don't even know about. Focus is a great place to find a lot of them.

“Why, yes, I am thinking of waffle fries, that’s amazing!” You could get around it by emphasizing they should project the images and not the words they represent- that way you are interpreting it as ‘net’ rather than them. 🤷‍♂️

That's one I didn't think of, but you're right. It DOES look like a waffle or a waffle fry. Also, nice suggestion. That may work. I'll never know. I gave it to another reviewer. :0]

@@StoneColdMagic just as well. A lot of these “mentalist in trouble, but actually here’s a hidden reveal” tricks I think are more fun for the performer than the audience. I believe it’s better to casually show the 4-5 Chinese flash cards for the reveal as you explain why you have them, put them aside, force the corresponding card/word and then show how they were influenced. If you’re going to read someone’s mind, let them choose anything and get a peek. /rant

@@erictrainor4345 - I know what you mean. However, I think most of the "problem" comes from poor acting and poor performing, or from drawing it out a bit too much. This one does draw it out a bit, but that doesn't impact the star rating because it's a personal choice.

On a serious note, I know the NET symbol is not the easiest to get. Sometimes the SNOW symbol gets called "Snowflake" and I have to explain it's just "SNOW". What I do is to pre-empt this by doing this: as I am displaying the 20 different symbols at the start of the trick, I just casually name some of them. "As you can see, we have 20 different symbols, some abstract, some a bit more concrete... like this one is a Man, this one is a Net, this one is Snow, this one is the Sun... so on and so forth." I have done this so far and during one public performance on stage, the person did choose the NET symbol and when I asked what they chose, they dutifully said "Net". So I think this approach works!

@@harapanong - Thanks for sharing this. That's a great solution for sure. I thought of doing it that way as well, but I just like the Chinese cards so much better. Also, congratulations on a great effect. You may be the only person on Earth who improved on a Max Maven idea so much that he felt it was an improvement. :0]

@StoneColdMagic thanks Jeff. Yeah I do the Chinese version all the time as well. It's much more unexpected - I've had 1 or 2 times where the spectator sees the word before the climax happens for the ESP version, but never for the Chinese version. Max was very kind to give his permission indeed.

@@harapanong - I prefer to streamline the presentation and just pull out the spellers and claim that their card is there. When they fight me, I argue and then prove it by reorienting the cards.
