Grew up with my dad listening to his, I have just bought my 1st turntable, and this is the 1st album that I have purchased to play, I want my kids to sit down, and be drawn into the story as I was, all those years ago. ..... Hopefully, it isn't just me that was scared shitless listening to the cylinder unscrew ....

Yea same story with me. Dad used to play me and my brother this album....that cyclinder unscrew and the sinking feeling when the thunderchild goes down...chilling!
@darrenwells22772 жыл бұрын
You know how that effect was done?? It was Jeff scraping a spoon in a saucepan then loads of echo and reverb added afterwards.... not so spooky when you know how its done eh? lol

I'm still playing my original copy from back in 1978... I like hearing a bit of crackle with Burton's voice at the beginning. I also have the 2006 remixed version on CD which is signed by Jeff Wayne who I got to meet at a dress rehearsal for the first tour.

Thanks Stripey, I'm becoming addicted to you! I had the LP in 1978, during the 90s, and then on CD. I bought it again last year. Yes, I love it. And thanks to your post, Ive just learned that the ETD soundtrack is available on vinyl, so I've just bought the picture disc version 😃

I bought the double LP just after it was first released, wish I knew what I'd done with the booklet - it's probably "somewhere safe". After some years I noticed that the LP was a bit warped, the arm was going up and down like a fairground ride, so I bought the double cassette. I've now bought the double CD, so I've bought it in all available media. [I even bought the pc game, but didn't have much luck with that] I could listen to Richard Burton for hours, and have done - I don't know his dialogue word for word, but I can talk along with most of it. What a gap he left in the world.

Hi Stripey, have had the original album when it came out in 1978/79. A few years ago bought the special edition 2 cd release. Saw Wayne a couple of years ago here in Sydney when he brought out the War of the Worlds Stage Show Musical it was great with the Martian taking up the front stage!! He also personally signed a number (large) of Concert Souvenir Books. You must get a chance to see the live show if it is still on.BTW also have the DVD which contains the full musical & another disc on how they came up with the idea & created the stage show. You must check that out!

Hi mate. It's Wayne. Just to share this with you. My Dad brought the album when it first came out. So as young as I can remember. It was always being played around the house. Now as a young child I always thought that the people in the inside album cover picture were none other then the Beatles. (Because of there sideburns) and used to spend many hour trying to work out who was John. Who was Paul etc. The penny did drop a few years later. But come on I was only a little ankle biter at the time. Lol

Hi Stripey, great video yet again, nice that you venture out into different artists. I especially like this album, one of my favs and one that I bought when it first came out. It looks like the artwork, gatefold cover and booklet are the same as the original 1978 release except that the booklet then was stapled into the centre and not separate. At the time I had a Technics record deck, huge speakers and a very powerful Technics amp, one that I still used today along with the large floor standing speakers. The main set up was in the lounge but I did run another set of speakers into my study room next door. My girlfriend at the time had a friend staying who, feeling rather tired, decided to call it a night and retire to the room next door. We gave it an hour and put the album on quietly in the lounge. When the cylinder started to unscrew with the bom bom bom beat, I hit the button for speaker set number 2. OMG, when the top fell off, it became very apparent that my girlfirend's friend had a rather powerful set of lungs on her. So funny at the time.......

Hahaha brilliant I bet she s**t a brick mate! It is a great album I forgot how great (hadn't played it in ages) I vaguely remember the book being stapled to the record. Hope your well Mudpuddle, thanks.

My dad played me his when I was young and I've loved it since. I've owned it on tape, LP, CD and now on the computer on MP3 so I can listen to it on my phone anytime. I went to the live concert, I own the live concert on DVD, alone with the Next Generation version (Liam Neeson as The Jounalist). I INSIST I AM NOT OBSESSED!!!!!

Hi mate. I have never been into this album. Started playing it a few times, but.... i ccould never play the whole album (cd), i guess it is not my kind of music. The Kinks would be a nice one for your next vinyl 1st play. Enjoy the album and looking forward to your next video. Keep up mate.

@@StripeyR Hi mate. I will give Jeff Wayne another try. And I knew that you would know that I would suggest The Kinks. It is my number 2 Brittish band at least up to their "Everybody Is In Show-Biz" album in1972,. My number 1 Brittish band, ...... (And this you know for sure,) are .....The Beatles. And the last 2 Ray Davies - Americana albums are some good pieces of music.

hey stripey; the kinks are a band i think you would love to obtain more albums from; they have great vinyls from approx 1966 to 1972. from what you play and love i know you would be amazed at how good the band are. id like to see you do a stones album from their classic era 68-72; exile on main st is such a unique sound. take care and keep putting your great content out there. ps that richard burton voice is amazing on the intro

Stripey, I say your next first play should be Nirvana's Nevermind in my personal opinion. Also sir, I'm looking to buy myself a new vinyl but I don't know what to get. I was thinking about getting a classic rock album that is more relaxing and easy going rather than a very up tempo and head banging album. Was wondering if u had any suggestions...?

Great album and have seen the stage show twice (which is a must see if you like the record). The excerpt you played Stripey, where it reminded you of a 70's TV series, I reckon is a bit like the Persuaders theme (with Roger Moore and Tony Curtis), fabulous stuff!!. A fantastic album. My mam has had this since 1978 and l began my love for it in around 1982 when l was 5 years old. She still has the original vinyl pressing. This is a reproduction of that original. This has the full script included where as the 1978 booklet was abridged from the main albums dialogue. I also like his Spartacus album, but it's nowhere near as popular and some may argue not as good. It's a very different sounding album but l like it. Very hard to get though. I got mine off eBay on CD for £35. Anyway l have the new vinyl reissue as shown here, the 2006 remix CD, the 7 disc boxset (highly recommended) and the original CD release from about 1986. Check out the DVD live performance too. But don't bother with the New Generation stuff. lol

Ive been really intrigued at how this vinyl rerelease sounds. On youtube, I heard Spirit Of Man from what I believe is the 2009 CD and they ruined the vocals / singing. Terrible job on the sound mix. I really hope this vinyl reissue does not use that same mix.
