Some corrections on the songs--the first three, often touted as the "earliest live Airplane" from Nov '65 are actually from the band's 9/30/66 Winterland date (the earliest live Airplane that actually survives comes from the band's January 1966 Vancouver shows). The last two songs aren't demos; they are Jefferson Starship doing "White Rabbit" live in 1975 and the Airplane doing "Crown Of Creation" live in 1970.

WE had it made back then. I can't imagine a group of young people today that could or would want to attempt sounding anything like this band. Maybe in the distant future.....

In 1970 I attended a private alternative High School that was in this amazing building the building was a co-op of artists with recording studios artist lofts and living quarters a former Candy factory it had a rooftop kitchen and dining area with a fantastic view of the Bay. At the time the building was known as Project One. A fantastic experience with almost nightly rooftop concerts and jam sessions. Only a short walk away from the Fillmore West on market Street.

@@VeteransOfThePsychWars yes I was very lucky the school was run by doctors of education from Berkeley who were also acid heads for graduation the entire student body of 12 and the teachers went to death Valley and dropped acid. Not a conventional American high school education. LOL

I got to see the band(s) a number of times. And got to be friends with Signe and Skip. I met Signe when she worked in a little rocking club called the Dandelion....I had no clue of her history until years went by. During Skips last years we became drinkin' buddies and would meet for happy hours and pal around....I didn't know who he was until after a few outings someone clued me in... They were genuinely nice and humble good friends.. As a 15 year old I snuck away to a 3day festival called Bullfrog 1 (~67)....it was an epic and one of the best ever....they let me sit on the stage while they played....everyone was dosed to the max. Then I saw them a couple of years later in Eugene and they allowed me to sit on stage with them again. Through the years involved with music promotion I was allowed backstage for a Starship Show and Hot Tuna. I was working on a Light Show for an Airplane re-union shortly before Signe's passing....I had backstage access and got to chat again with Signe....the fest was a disaster....raining buckets and standing water on the stage and scant audience sitting on the ground in the rain....it was saved when a tiny space was found for them to play in comfort....it was soo sweet....they did "...no secret" and "Tobacco.." and "..Chauffeurs.." it was captivating and sung from the heart.

I wasn't aware there were concerts at 924 Howard, or maybe this was a one-off? I sort-of briefly lived there in an upstairs side room in early '67. At that time, it was split between the Mime Troupe rehearsal space and the SDS Regional Office.

Saw Jorma with a backing band(not Hot Tuna,) at a small club, maybe 250 people. He did a version of "Red House" that literally shook the windows and knocked some pictures of other artists like Townes van Zant and Livingston Taylor off the walls. He did Hendrix proud that night!
