That snake box was fun, especially with the school children. As a newbie to your channel, does the mixed honey in the drum become a blended honey, like you see written up on a label 'a blend of honey' from different hives? Must admit, puts me off buying a blend; looks like yukky dregs before it goes into the jars for selling. Also when you're draining that stuff, how come you're not gowned up in a sterilised area if you ubderstand the jist of my ramblings. Remember, l'm new, l'm not criticing, l'm wondering and learning. Amazing! Thank you. The LORD bless you and continue to make your face shine every day.

Apologies, it's me again! When the bees came and cleaned the drums, do the drums get washed out ready for the next lot? 🙈
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
You need to check out the very first video I posted on the "snakes in a bee box," video link below, it was several years ago, and from time to time, they make another cameo appearance just for the fun of it. Yes, our honey is blended, but from only "our" bees. Because we have 10 different out yards with bees in them, it would be to difficult to separate the different yards, and all the equipment would have to be cleaned to keep the tastes separate. As to why we are not "gowned up," because bacteria will not grow in honey, it is not necessary to have a sterilized environment to process or bottle honey. Keep asking and learning. Thank you for your blessings and for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. Hi Mr Ed, Thank you so much for your videos, I very much enjoy them. What other things are made at The Abby? I have two questions re crystallized honey. Does reconstituted crystallized honey have a greater tendency to recrystallize than honey that has not crystallized? Second question, I have noted that some honey I have bought does not crystallize even after some years while other honey begins to crystallize after a few months, is there a difference in the chemistry or what other characteristics influence crystallization? I live in a moderate climate, in winter a few days get to below 0 C in summer a few days get to high 30's C
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
First, the video link below shows what other things are made at the abbey as well as a good look at it. Second, all crystallized honey that has been liquified will again, at some point, crystallize once again, it it the nature of "true" honey. Third, the reason most honeys that don't crystallize won't is because they are not "true" honey, that is there are other compounds mixed into the honey, such as corn starch, fructose, glucose, and who knows what else, that prevent it from happening. By seeing crystalized honey, you know you are getting the real thing. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKulqo14bMtqrKs

Wax melts at 145 degrees so I like the temperature about 165 to 175. Still, it will reach boiling if I don't keep on top of it but that's ok if it does, it does not harm the wax. Thanks for watching. God's peace Randy. Mr. Ed

Hey Mr Ed, will that honey crystallize again? Also, do you know what makes it get like that to begin with? My husband likes to get "real" honey but it always gets crystallized after a little while. It winds up wasted because i cant get it out of the bottle & obviously cant heat it safely when its in there lol
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
Yes, it will crystallize again, and it will do that due to the sugar content of the nectar when it was gathered. By heating the bottle up in hot water, it will always get the remaining honey liquified....just like I did in the video but on a lot smaller scale. Thanks for watching. God's peace Tammy. Mr. ed

03:10 Do they have enough square area for entry and exit here? Or are they really only orienting after that much time?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
From what I observe in all the feral hives I encounter, the hive entrance is not only large enough, it also provides protection for the hive. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed

@@JeffHorchoff Thanks for your response! I don't comment much, but I watch you quite frequently. That is interesting. I have no experience with feral hives but it just seemed much smaller than the domestic ones I have been around many times so that made me wonder. It will be interesting to see that work out.

What type of Hive is the Long Hive in this video

Layens

It's called a Layens hive and I built it myself because I'm fascinated how the bees work the frames. I will be making more videos on this hive, and I hope you will check them out. Thanks for watching. God's peace Keith. Mr. Ed

Decrystalize honey. What happens when you forget to return the thermal sensor inside your hot box. Or should I say the clean up afterwards: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWTVpaangLCMrNU I ended up giving the cooked honey to a veterans canteen for their weekly lunch. I had a 5 gallon bucket last summer crystallized within a month of being extracted. Ordered 1# tubs from BetterBee and now I have creamed honey for sale. Norms: USA - liquid honey. Europe - crystallized honey.

I hope to be adding creamed honey to the honey sales at the Gift Shop, I certainly have enough stock to work with. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Why do you call it the abby ?
@KDVoller Жыл бұрын
It's a Catholic Benedictine Abbey where Monks live and work.

The name of the monastery is St. Joseph Abbey, and "abbey" is just the short version of it. God's peace Tim. Mr. Ed

How can i buy honey from you?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
If you'd like to buy some of our Abbey Honey, I'd be more than happy to send you some. The cost is $10.00 for a one pound, plastic bottle, and $10.00 for shipping. If you want more than one bottle, the shipping cost is still $10.00 for up to 2 bottles, but each bottle is still $10.00. As soon as I get your check, I will send it out. Make the check out to St. Joseph Abbey but send the letter to: Mr. Ed 75376 River Rd. St. Benedict, La. 70457 If you'd like, I'll even sign the bottle. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

We hate the Love Bugs as they will swarm over roadways and when you hit them with your car they'll eat away the wax and paint if not washed off right away. Cars will pull off the road to wash off or clean their wiper blades because they are full of smashed Love bugs, and the driver can't see. The hot car will often start a fire in the grass! Yes we call them Love bugs, but we don't love them. Even the birds won't eat them.

With all the assorted fur faces, how are we supposed to tell WHO is the REAL Mr. Ed? The one that scares everybody to death with the observation hive, naturally! NICE wax for sure and you get me lusting after that honey and me knowing I can't have it. I'll just have to repent and pray harder................and maybe just watch with one eye! Thanks for sharing with us Mr. Ed That drum of honey has got to smell amazing. Question about the end of the video - Would you call those bees that are cleaning up the honey in the drum and the pail robber bees? Or is that a term reserved for when they are robbing out a hive that's not theirs? Thanks.
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
Yes, they are robber bees. The only difference this time is I welcome the robbing...it helps me. God's peace Ron. Mr. Ed
