Did a soffit removal 2 weeks ago. It was clean removal so I was surprised when they call the next evening and said we left a lot of Bees. I had told them to call if there were strays. When I got there it was a new swarm (maybe 5 lbs).

When the swarm is large enough, they can get a lot of comb built in a very short period of time, and with an old queen, like this queen was, she can begin laying right away and the colony grows exceptionally fast. Thanks for watching. God's peace Kathleen. Mr. Ed

So cut out carefully with Scissors and added to Roller Cages, to Bank these Virgin Queens ! 🎉 So many Frames of Bees, so have plenty for x2 Frame Nucs pp Mating. No Bees Swarm on my watch. Only others Bees finding me and my Girls in my well planted Garden ! That incoming Swarm of last Monday its amazing. They buzz from dawn until dusk. Hope another one finds us soon. @viahoneybees
@viahoneybees Жыл бұрын
We’ve done it both ways. Framing comb can be messy and time consuming. For us it depends on each particular removal if we frame comb on location or not. I’m not sure if Mr. Ed treats his bees for mites or not, so not framing the comb may also give the bees a short brood break that would be beneficial, especially if he treats with OAV after he rehives them. There’s pluses and minus to each way. As with all things beekeeping, there’s a million ways to accomplish the same goal, which in the end is a healthy colony!

Mr Ed, you’re looking more and more like the Dirt Rooster while doing the cutouts. Just shed the gloves and gain about 20 pounds! lol Nothing like a Friday morning drinking coffee while watching Mr Ed and GTC.

Very nice with a bonus swarm, I did two in the last two days and the comb was just like yours very white and not capped over I think it might be to humid for them to cap it yet. Doing another one today at 9 am that will be much older and much larger. Do you mind if I ask what date the cutout was, thanks again for making my morning coffee even better.

What is your method when using lemon grass oil for swarm traps
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
A few drops of lemongrass oil on each end of a Q tip and drop it into the trap. Then, a few more on the top of the frames and close it up. That's it. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Hi. Always love your videos. Just wondering what becomes of the bees left behind like field bees. Do they search for another colony or die off? I realize there may be no answer to this question but thanks for your time. PS just ignore the “annoyed” one not worth your energy !!

Generally, the field bees left behind will find another hive to call home. As long as they come to stay and not rob, they are welcomed. Thanks for your kind words and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Joyce. Mr. Ed

Just finished watching another great video of yours with Good Time Charlie (the GTC). One question that I have is do you quarantine your new bees before putting them near your older hives or do you have enough room that this is not a problem?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
I do not quarantine the bees. They go from where ever they come from right into out bee yard and I have never had issues doing that. Thanks for watching. God's peace Garry. Mr. Ed

Hi! Mr. Jeff I have a question for you . I have some honey I got about 11 years ago. I open it one time then I closed it up and didn’t touch since. My question is would it be still good to eat .

Honey can stay good forever if stored properly. So smell it, if it doesn’t smell off and there’s no mold on it then it’s fine.

I'll say this Tony, when one of the tombs in Egypt were opened and honey that had been buried there was discovered, it was still good. Because honey will not grow bacteria, it is the ONLY natural substance that will do that, it will never go bad. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Newbee here... How do you know you are not sucking up the queen?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 3 ай бұрын
Delighted to hear you are now a beekeeper, I always say the world needs as many beekeepers as it can get. I take great care locating the queen when doing a removal and probably find her 85% of the time, but if she is vacuumed it is not a big deal as she is almost never harmed getting sucked up. In all the years I have been doing removals with a vac, only once did I find a dead queen in the bee vac. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them.
