Very nice capture of some fine southern wax Mr Ed! And yet before we all know it, the boxes will be heading out to their field locations to allow the bees to return to doing bee things. Seeing a forecaster suggesting snow or ice as far south as the Gulf in the next few days, I sure hope you have spare batteries for your heated winter vests! Sure to be a great test of bee strength down in your milder climate. Stay close to your heater during the approaching cold snap to remain healthy and happy! -Bob...

Normally I would be using my honey/wax separator to separate the honey from the wax, but because this was my fall harvest and there was not much honey or wax from it, using this method proved to be more effective. Processing the honey and rendering the wax are some of my most favorite jobs as a beekeeper and I have made dozens of videos showing my methods. I’m smiling as you talk of cold at 27°. It’s going to be -10° where I live, tomorrow, and -17° on Monday. It’s wonderful that you got the new roof on the Peacock House. It looks great! The commercial boiling vat you have for melting the wax looks to be a God send when it comes time to render wax! So fast and efficient. It’s amazing how much wax you get from 180 frames cappings, when you think about how small each little cap really is. Stay warm !!

@@Stephan-H I love the Fahrenheit scale! 100°F is blisteringly hot, and 0°F is devastatingly cold. It's well suited for outdoor life. However, in Canada, atmospheric temperatures are almost exclusively described in Celsius these days. About the only regular use we still have for Fahrenheit is in cooking and baking.
@JeffHorchoff

My goodness, I could not take that kind of cold, you must live in Antarctica. Regardless of where you really live, I'm happy I don't live there. No way could I stand it. The new roof is awesome and with it our boxes will stay nice and dry while they are being stored. The wax kettle was actually being discarded from the kitchen after the flood in 2016. I simply went down the road and loaded it on a trailer and brought it back to the honey house. Of course I did have to get it worked on, but the investment was well worth it as it has proven itself invaluable to the honey program. Thanks for watching. God's peace Cheryl. Mr. Ed

Even though we have some really great tools at our disposal, getting back to the basics is still a lot of fun, and I love sharing it. That is really cool about machinists trading labels. My thoughts about the our wall is it reminds me of old gas stations with all the decals and trade mark signs all over their walls. As far as my advice about getting bees, if you are allergic to bee stings, it may be best to just keep watching videos about them...or keep an epipen with you at all times. Thanks for watching. Because the roof line extends so far from the edge of the building, there is no need for gutters, the rain splatter never reaches to the inside. The haul of wax was really surprising, but I'm grateful for the size of the block it made! Thanks for watching. God's peace Misty. Mr. Ed

You can take some wax paper or deli sheets and lay it on the honey in the bucket. Press down gently to get the air bubbles out. Then remove the wax paper, and the wax will stick to the paper if it's not too big. This is after the initial scooping. I saw this here on youtube.

We will be in a lift truck about 30 feet in the air so it should be pretty interesting. Stay tuned for that video the following Friday after this week. The wax must be separated from the honey and then washed. Give sweet water to the bees. Then there will be less foam. And the surface of the wax will be cleaner. The wax must be well insulated and wrapped. Then it will be cleaner, and foam, if there is any, will be removed. What honey plant is this honey from?

Good morning Jared. First, I'm no expert in anything...except procrastination. That being said. You could actually set swarm traps right now. Three years ago I caught my first swarm on Feb. 3. And concerning splits, I begin looking in hives mid February, and if they are large enough, I begin splitting them. You have to remember, by mid March I want to be finished splits giving the hives enough time to grow in order for me to get a nice honey harvest. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. I live in north Florida and i have got 3 hives that are smaller (nucs) that didnt have much honey going into colder weather so I fed sugar syrup for a couple weeks. I checked them about a week or two ago and they still had some honey in them. But my question is, they are saying theres a possibility for snow next week. Should I try to give them some more syrup? I also have some honey they was taken from my other hives that i could use if needed, i know some people dont recommend feeding honey back to bees due to disease spread. What would you recommend?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 12 күн бұрын
When I feed bees, which is very rare, I give them honey. However, a 2 to one sugar/water mixture works very well. About feeding them prior to the cold weather coming in next week, personally, I would wait till after it passes and warms up again so they will actually be able to get to it instead of being all balled up trying to keep alive. Once the cluster breaks up and the bees begin moving again, they will be able to access the sugar water. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. If you have some pure honey in a squeezable bottle and it gets hard/frozen how do you turn it back in to pure usable honey
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 8 күн бұрын
Even though your honey has crystallized, it is still very much useable. The way to get honey back into it's liquid state after it has crystallized is to heat it. The problem with using plastic bottles is plastic, when heated, deforms and releases nasty chemicals into the honey. It is for that reason I put honey in glass bottles. If I were you I'd spoon out the hard honey and place it in a glass container and heat it under low heat till it liquifies once again. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Stand it in warm water. You don’t want it hot, because as Jeff says the plastic may deform or leach some nasty chemicals out. But just standing in warm water won’t be hot enough to risk that (unless your squeeze bottle is made of something seriously not food safe!).

Theres gotta be a temperature sweet spot between honey and wax for the gravity drain. sure, the viscocity and water content of the honey may matter but im sure there is an ideal seperation temp for massive batches. Wonder what it is?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 4 күн бұрын
From what I know, the warmer it is, the easier it is for the honey to flow and it matters not the viscosity. As long as it is warm, the honey will move. My guess is temps in the 100 - 110 degree work the best as at that temperature the active particles inside the honey remain intact and viable. Please don't tell me something happened to the big strainer from the giant coffee percolator? I think that thing is so neat, imagining how many thousands of people it has made coffee for.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 11 күн бұрын
The coffee strainer is fine. The reason I used this strainer was there was more surface area for the wax to spread out in thus allowing the honey to drain quicker. I bet the coffee strainer made millions of cups of coffee while it was in service during WWII, and now it's reduced to a few gallons of honey going through it. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed
