I can't imagine who would address you as *not much of an archer* just because you do not do a lot of target archery. It is a lot harder to hit a moving target at 20 yards than it is to hit a stationary target at 50 yards. Your ability to make very quick and very accurate shot at moving targets is quite phenomenal in my opinion.

Jeff, this is one of my favorites from your library of archery videos. Highly skilled shooting, a solid '59 Kodiak review with howling winds emerging in the audio, the photo of the incredible shot on your turkey hunt, slow-motion effects to keep things fun. I understand you're not posting content these days, but I still receive great inspiration from your videos, as well as advice which continues to improve my archery. Thanks so much!

Gedday there Jeff,Have just recently got my hands on my long awaited 59 kodiak which is 55lb r/h and found that 4 different archers could not get this Kodiak to bear shaft tune,constant high nock travel.Removed feather rest and replaced it with a slightly center raised bear hair rest and you can hardly get a high nock travel if you try. Regards Carl.

Interesting point you have there. Assyrian bow also have thick and narrow tip too, wonder how they stack up against modern hunting recurves. Still, Kodiak remains one of my dream bow, won't hesitate to nab one at a good price.

The 59 Kodiak is a great bow, it was the best thing Bear has ever done, bringing back the 59 Kodiak. I bought 45# and only pulling closer to 41 due to my short draw @ 26" but it's still very fast. I will be buying another soon perhaps @ 55 # this time. You will not regret buying that bow.

I agree with you about not bothering to shoot long distances. You would never in good conscious shoot at game from that far away in fear of missing or worse, wounding the animal. I feel the same way about my personal defense weapon (compact 380 without sights). My handgun is for up close and personal self-defense, not for firing at someone a block away.

Do you actually need to lead the target at all at that distance? Seems like it wouldn't be by much. Are you just shooting down that vertical line, like you demonstrate in your vertical line shooting practice video? I just edited this message to say how absolutely amazed I am at your skill with a bow. I never even thought the things you can do were possible outside of Hollywood. Impressive!

Well... Mr. Bear kept on making it better. He added more to the handle for ballance and a smoother shot like seen in the next 3 years of the Kodiak and the design of the Kodiak Hunter, the heir of the original Kodiak. Also in 1963 Bear added to the riser causing the outward flare before entering the limbs. The Kodiak stopped looking like a Kodiak, so he changed the name to the Super Kodiak. Then Bear put latched on a super Kodiak, and the Kodiak takedown was born. It all about smooth shots.

Absolutely incredible shooting. How many hours per day do you practice ? When did you first start serious training ? Out here in Montana archers generally hunt w/ 70 lbs. compound bows 80% let-off, mechanical release, illuminate sights, etc. Recently, I've considered instinctive shooting with compound bow, but your videos are truly inspirational. Great that you made such a good recovery. Impressive too that Bear Archery is making such fine, traditional bows.

I am really looking at buying one of these '59 reproduction Kodiaks. Its that bow or a Martin Savannah stealth. I have an older 56" grizzley that i can never seem to get consistent groups with. I can see some slight twisting in the limbs.

Awesome shooting! I am retiring my 2 Grizzlies manufactured from 1966 and 1969, my 66 has developed a weak upper limb, so rather than continue shooting, and breaking it, I will retire it as a wall hanger. I want something different and am divided between the 59 Kodiak and Super Kodiak, I draw 30" so I thought perhaps a 64 AMO SK: but on the other hand I sure like the looks of the 59 Kodiak with the 60 AMO. My Grizzlies have 58 and 56 AMO respectively and my longer draw was ok with the 58 AMO but the 56 AMO is a little pinchy on the fingers, so Im looking for some advice as to which to buy?
@JeffKavanagh
@JeffKavanagh 9 жыл бұрын
Snow Walker They are very different bows but both shoot very well. I think either would perform well. The '59 is a much lighter, quicker handling bow than the Super Kodiak is, but that isn't saying it doesn't handle well too. lol I think it will come down to your personal preference. I am glad I have both so I don't have to choose.

Hi Jeff, first of all thank you for all your videos. I watched most of them and learned about Instinctive Archery. I am planning to start shooting too and would like to ask your opinion on which bow to start shooting. I am in between Kodiak and Take down, but my heart goes to Kodiak honestly. Do you think it would be a good choice to start shooting? I am ~70kg, 1.78m high, slender and not very powerful on the arms. Thank you again for all sharings.Cheers, Emre

Hello Jeff, I placed an order with my local Bow and arrow shop to order this beautiful bear 59 Kodiak for Christmas. I also decided to get 40LBS. How do you recommend the right tension to your followers, is it height, strength or expertise. I am 5"7" 120 lbs and currently shooting a 50LBS Bear Montana Longbow which is a little too strong and I have been shooting for 3 months. Do you know how long is the wait to get it from the factory? I was told 4 to 5 weeks Thank you for your help. BTW I started to shoot from different distances according to your advice and I started to be more accurate even at 20 yards. Fabrice

I'm not sure if you're referring to me here? If you notice, my videos are all almost 10 years old. I think I made my last one about six years ago, likely longer. I don't make them anymore. Also, I've never made any money off them. I made the videos for the sole reason of trying to help people get into archery to assist them in shortening their learning curve because I know how much I struggled back in the seventies and eighties on my own without any help. In the past, I've responded to hundreds and hundreds of emails and questions with absolutely nothing in it for me. I've stopped answering questions for several reasons. Firstly, it takes a lot of my time. I've already donated my time and energy to making the FREE videos in the first place. And trust me, it takes a lot of time. Secondly, I find that most of the questions people ask can be answered if they just pay attention when watching the videos. Thirdly, because of people like you who expect everything given to them with a total disregard for even saying "Thank You."
