What type of mouthpiece would you recommend
@JeffLewisTrumpet6 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one to answer! Mouthpieces are very personal and it usually depends on the sound you want and type of music you are playing. What sound are you looking for and what is the style of music you normally play? Are there certain players you are trying to emulate sound wise? Let me know a little more and maybe I can suggest a few things. I' be glad to help. Thanks!
@Ungomongo6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Lewis Trumpet I love to play jazz, so I’d want a mouthpiece with a great range, preferably one that is somewhat easy to play loud and high at the same time. I’ve been using the standard 7c but I just feel like the circumference of the mouthpiece is too large. I honestly don’t have any specific trumpet player in mind. I don’t know much about the different types of mouthpieces and the terminology and technical stuff, so it’s been hard to find a good mouthpiece.
@JeffLewisTrumpet6 жыл бұрын
I use Yamaha mouthpieces because I like the sound, feel, and bite compared to other models. I found this online and it may be useful; www.bachbrass.com/application/files/4614/8521/7763/AV2BA901_Original_1889_web.pdf. Bach mouthpieces tend to be industry standard when comparing to other brands so it may be a good idea to start there. The 7c may be too deep imo if you are looking for range and a brighter /fatter sound. Experimentation is best but it can get pricey. I used to order mouthpieces from mouthpieceexpress.com because they had a good return policy. You can also try wwbw.com as they have a wide selection. Hope that helps!
@Ungomongo6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Lewis Trumpet thank you so much! I hate to bother you again but would you say the heavy valve caps are better than normal ones.
@JeffLewisTrumpet6 жыл бұрын
Personally, I don't like heavy anything. Be it heavy caps, bottoms, mega tone mouthpieces, or heavy horns, they always feel and sound "dead" to me. That's just me though. I would definitely say try it if you're interested. You may like it. Everyone is different and I would never want to discourage you from checking something out just because it's not for me! Let me know how it goes.

@JohnsonSmithson3 жыл бұрын
He played the melodic minor, there wasn't an ab or bb
@JeffLewisTrumpet3 жыл бұрын
I use what's considered the "jazz" melodic minor scale which is a major scale with a lowered third up and down. In other words, it's not the classical version of melodic minor ascending and natural minor descending. Hope that makes sense?

A man finds a genie's lantern on a beach, rubs it and a happy genie appears. "Hello lucky mortal, I am the genie of the lamp here to grant you any wish!". The man timidly replies that his one wish might be asking for too much. "Nonsense" says the genie, "I will grant you whatever it is you wish!". "Okay", says the man. "Mr. Genie, if you will, please make the trumpet a very easy thing for me to play". The genie gives the man a dirty look, cusses him out and disappears back into his lamp. Evidently the genie once tried to play the trumpet and the man's request just rubbed him the wrong way...

@JeffLewisTrumpet5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! What kind of mouthpiece do you have now? I know Clifford Brown played a shallow mouthpiece but I'm not sure what Chet played. Jazz players tend to play bigger/deeper cupped mouthpieces for that big, dark, warm tone. Have you tried the Bobby Shew "Jazz" mouthpiece by Yamaha? Many people start with a Bach 3C and go from there. It's really a matter of personal sound and preference.
@svb93985 жыл бұрын
@@JeffLewisTrumpet idk exactly what kind of mouthpiece i got, i also cant find this information on the company website. I think it looks like the yamahas one you ve told. I ll probably try the bach 3c. I know that a good player sounds good on any trumpet and mouthpiece, but do you think that a good mouthpiece can improve and worth the sound and the experience for a begginer? Thanks man 😀🎺
