new research = new conclusion with the now more abundance of research saying the stretch part of the movement is the most important for muscle growth, that even doing just the stretch part can sometimes be better, it make sense to modify the exercise to have more tension in the stretch part

He's good but he also says there's nothing wrong with the standard standing variation. Also among any serious lifters it's already known there's no tension at the bottom, not just for this but for any similar lift. There's even one school of thought that eliminates out the lower tension portions of lifts entirely, practically making them all holds instead of lifts. I like Jeff's videos, he's a great resource. Good luck on your fitness journey. You can't go wrong looking at his videos but also other sources too and finding what works best for you personally.
@therocklau
@therocklau 2 ай бұрын
OK you wanna know and I'll tell you why Jeff's tips are not ideal, he classify himself as a science based content creator, but this tips are almost always draw from experience, and more his personal experience, take this lateral raise as example, that little angle on the bottom DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL, because at that angle your side delts simply doesn't work to support the weight on your arm, yes you and create some tension leaning sideways, but why? That's just some old time pump chasing, which does not add any mechanical tension only adding a tiny bit more metabolic stress, for normal people that will not give you gains, unless you are enhanced, but then Jeff is not enhanced he is natural. You got results because you worked hard, this is what working out like, even if you do it the "wrong" way you will still get better, does not mean tips you followed did wonder, you did wonders to yourself. And if you really value science bases tips, go see RP, a far better arsenal of knowledge.
@elenanapoles

@therocklau I strongly believe tgat working hard it's absolutely necessary to get good results, however a proper form and good technique are the key . How you can do it wrong and get the results you want , when may you will be working in different muscles.

I do them very weird but I like them the most and find them most effective because there’s movement in your whole body so you don’t use momentum to complete the reps. 1. Place your dumbbells under a bench(preferably one with a back that you can put to a 90 degree angle) 2. Sit down on the bench, grab the dumbbells under the bench and lateral raise from under the bench. If you don’t understand, reply and I will make a video and link it to show you.
@TheLobstah
@TheLobstah 2 ай бұрын
One more tip to get more stretch, you don't have to stop at your torso on the bottom. You can pass the dumbbell in front of you at the bottom (lean forward a bit if necessary) to get even more stretch with tension.

Personally never enjoyed it. I call them lu raises. But i have to reduce the load quite a bit in order to do the top part. Which isn’t much side delts anyway. And then after I can still crank about a few more reps but can’t get it to the top and now have burning traps with little Delt burn. Felt like a waste of time and energy. I went and tried it right after watching the video. The following day, my lateral shoulder heads and serratus very sore (and they never get sore from the regular dumbbell lateral raises I've been doing). Cable is of course the best but I only have dumbbells at home and this variation is a close second. Thanks!

Lean slightly forward to bias the lateral delt more and let the dumbbell come to center line to increase the stretch and ROM.
