Love that video and took a lot from it for my redemption run this year at MOAB 240 - "I won't help people (unless they die)" and run my own race. It is not meant as harsh as it sounds, but the firefighter and medic definitely "stole" the well needed time for foot care. Lesson learned - job not done.

The Salomon Cross Run T-shirt must be my favourite t-shirt to run in, I didn't know T-shirts could be so comfy :3 Also, I ran half of UTMB with the Ultra 3s, and I loved them! Only issue I had was that the quicklace system started to cause bruising on the top of my foot after a while :(

How did the Matryx material work for keeping out sand? I know you addressed the gaiters in the video, but I've been somewhat afraid to take my S/Lab Genesis on long desert runs because I was worried that sand might enter through the toe box. Thanks for any advice you can provide!

It definitely helps, along with the built in gaiters. But that really fine desert sand still makes its way in eventually.

Honestly, the biggest challenge is my just not having firsthand experience with many other brands. So it’s hard to confidently recommend them. But these videos are always intended more as, “here’s what I used and what worked for me”, as opposed to a review.

I don’t know if Jeff would change too much. If the shoes didn’t work, then he wouldn’t be wearing for those distances. Most other things (shorts, shirts etc) come down to preference in breathable, and a big company like Salomon offers a range so you have your pick. The vest is probably the most common vest on trails, belt is a belt, and so long as those things don’t chafe then you’re good to go. I only have the Salomon vest but that’s because the shoes aren’t a fit for me and I happen to have found other shirts/shorts that work well so I don’t need to try other brands.
