It's not just a question of objective speed. It's about the speed compared to the rest of the competition and to the technology they have to ride. You could argue that Herlings is technically a bit faster, but Stewart on a 125 specifically, was just insane. He made everyone else look like that were B class. And compared the technique at the time and skill that was known, he was so far ahead of his time. This is why he's he fastest man to ever throw a leg over a bike.

Agreed, if young Stewart was on a 2023 yz450f, he’d make Eli look slow and have Herlings scratching his head. The things JS7 did were nearly inhuman and I think people forget how crazy it is to pull shit off on bikes that are probably only half as advanced as bikes are today.

IMHO, if Herlings wanted the title of fastest man on earth, he should have got an AMA championship or 2. Other wise, he is always just going to be the fastest man that never raced AMA....... to most Americans

Could you say the same thing about James or Eli never getting a MXGP title?

@@GYPSYTALES I personally think the AMA has setup a far more diverse aspect of the sport (vs mxgp) using the indoor and ourdoor platforms. In the states, we have seen SOOOOOOOO many guys who DOMINATE outdoors but come up miserably short at indoors.... and visa'versa. I am NOT saying Eli is best orHerlings is best.... Evarts, Bubba, MC, etc... Im just saying, if you compete in what the AMA has to offer, its a great chance you will find out how fast a specific rider is in a much more diverse set of conditions. I have been religiously watching MXGP since the early 2000s, im not downplaying what yall have, AT ALL. Your ourdoors (I believe) is far more rigorous than what the AMA offers for outdoor competition. But the MXGP series does not (in my opinion) offer the vast diversity that the AMA series do. There arent to many things id like to se more than a Herlings vs Tomac championship contention go down. But, we are running out of time. The fellas are getting old on us !

they have raced. youtube Jeffrey Herlings vs. Eli Tomac. Spoiler - herlings first time on track set fastest qualifying times. Then won 2 of 2 heats. Beating Tomac. Even the 2nd race, Herling crashed at start, then came back to win. There are levels, and now, the EU riders are a step above the AMA guys. Look at the EU tracks vs US tracks. it's a different sport.

Tomac was in championship mode there's no way he was going to risk throwing away the chip just to whip Jeffery's ass.

Herlings timed his appearance perfectly making sure to come and race when he knew Eli wouldn't be willing to throw away a championship by not taking any chances . If Herlings is so obsessed with Eli he needs to come at the very beginning of a season when there's a clean slate NOT when Eli's about to win his first SX title.

@@2216sammy ok, put it another way. If it was Herlings about to win mxgp in EU, and he needed a 6th finish or somthing, and tomac was over there for a race in EU on off season. Who would win? Thee is zero percent chance Tomac gets within rach of Herlings on a EU track. These EU riders are different, becase they grew up riding soft sand and insane ruts, tracks that never get maintained. In the US, the track is flat to start with! lol

He's raced in pro monster motocross in states. he won both heats, even after crashing at the start on the 2nd. the crowd didnt like herlings, coz they are eli tomac fans. the crowed was so snobby to herling. also, the mxgp guys are faster than the states. The riders in the USA will NEVER reach euro riders. Have you seen the tracks US vs EU. EU is insane.

@@multitablez7825 Total nonsense . US guys are equally fast and would even be faster if they could only practice MX not SX and MX which is worlds harder.
