Great documentary! Nizami Pashayev's mugham style had me in tears the first time i listened to it. I've replayed it hundreds of times. I don't think he realized what it means to thousands of people who have seen and heard it. It shakes you inside! I had visited a couple of refugee camps in 1999. Went to Astara and Lankeron to see beautiful rugs and textile arts. Everyone in rural Azerbaijan does some sort of traditional art or agriculture. Americans and the US media are so clueless about the Karabagh war and who the real aggressors are.

Giving detailed information about Azerbaijani mugham, going to a refugee camp and covering the situation of the refugees and IDPs living in those difficult conditions, listening to the children, finding those children again years later, going so far to find that guy who sang the mugham - all these are really impressive and touchy. In 2003, UNESCO proclaimed Azerbaijani Mugham a "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity". It was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists in 2008. Jeffrey Werbock fell in love with Mugham and travelled to Azerbaijan. On his way he met many people from Karabakh, Place which is known as “craddle of Azerbaijani culture”. He met kids from refugee camps, where he witnessed their pain and their talent. “Being born in Karabach, means being talented for music”. This is a very nice movie, made by Jeffrey, shows short overview of a very unique non-western music culture and broken dreams of a whole generation of Karabach’s Mugham singers.
