This has the feel of a blooper reel they put together for the cast and crew for an end-of-season wrap party. It's probably the only reason they saved bloopers back then.

That may explain the subliminally timed naked lady throughout the reel. Just to get a rise from cast and crew.

One of my favorite episodes with Laura going back to dancing - "To Tell or Not to Tell" - S01E08 8:47 Love Mary here too in the extended blooper with her laughter and electric smile. I don't think it was as much a blooper as everyone trying to make Mary laugh. 9:52 Sally dancing! And throughout they all seemed to be having so much fun!

This is what is known as a Gag Reel or a Christmas Reel. They were shown at the Show/Network Christmas Party or some were edited to be shown at the Affiliate Convention. At this time in the world, production schedules were very different. They are always risqué and most folks got a kick out of it. They were for internal use only and, as most of them say, not for broadcast. There are many on KZbin, The CBS Affiliate Convention Tape is hilarious.

Shows in those days used to show the blooper reels at the cast wrap parties…like after a season ended…to the cast and crew. They had no idea that anyone outside of them would view these things 60 years later. In fact, bloopers weren’t even a thing the public saw until many years later. Burt Reynolds used to tack them on to the end of his movies in the 70s and that may have been the first time the public saw outtakes. So, yes, that is legit a naked woman slipped in there along with the other edits.

8:40 Interesting that Jerry Paris who played Jerry Helper should say that, because he had served in World War 2. Most of his work on "the Dicke Van Dyke show" was behind the camera. He was a big time director and much in demand throughout his career. He directed the show and later directed some episodes of the "Mary Tyler Moore" show. He directed "Happy Days" and "The Partridge Family" as well as many other shows. He was nominated for an Emmy four times and won 1 for the "Dick Van Dyke Show. He was married once, for 36 years and four children. He was married to Ruth Benjamin, his one and only and they had 3 children. He died of a brain tumor at age 60.
