I am a UK bus driver and I preach the same idea as Mr Dean. I always wear a smile when people board, and disembark, and thank them or tell them to have a nice day/evening :D People do say that it is great to have a driver who is positive as it is infectious and makes everyone else smile and feel good. I like that. It is a power we all have access to ;)

I had the pleasure and honor to meet NYCT Bus Operator Mr. Jefrick Dean today at the NYC Bus Roadeo in Corona, Queens today. A conscientious, humble and mild-mannered individual and amongst New York City Transit's hometown heroes!

I wish I could show my work ethnic and my skills just like you do Sir. I'm a bus Operator in a Small island name Barbados. I was voted the best bus driver by the people living on the island. And to see you doing your job the way it's suppose to be done, it makes me feel like I'm on the right path to success. I hope to become a MTA bus driver sometime in the near future.

I lived in NYC for three years in the late 90s. I took the bus and subway almost every day. After moving to another city and having to deal with their pathetic excuse for transit, I now see how good it is in NYC. I am willing to forgive a handful of insignificant disappointments if you'll excuse me for taking the other 99% of the time for granted. In my defense, it is easy to do that. Moreover, in this other city I frequently clashed with operators over their poor service - and even enjoyed doing it. if I ever failed to treat an NYC Bus operator with the same or greater courtesy that they showed to me, I deeply apologize and do not ask for forgiveness. They earned my respect many times over. It is my honor, pleasure, and privilege to use NYC Transit. thank you.

Lee Jackson I am glad to hear that and am happy to reciprocate. Will you admit that neither of us are perfect beings and mishaps may occur? In a city as large and as complex as NYC, all kinds of things -- weather, traffic, mechanical issues, or just crowds of people -- may influence the quality of service. in my experience with NYC Transit, I encountered very, very few issues with the service. In this other city, the problems were both chronic and persistent. Worse, no one seemed to care. You do, and it shows. Thank you again.

KillerKane0 I'm soooo curious , what city has the pathetic transit

Toronto, Canada. Absolutely unreliable service, worst operator attitude, a complete contrast to NYC's transit. After dealing with the TTC, I get down on my knees and apologize to the MTA for taking their hard work for granted.

I've been working for NYC buses for 25 years it is now one of the worst jobs to have. You, as the operator are blamed for EVERYTHING. You will get no help from the union, no help from management, no help from the cops. Just ask any senior member the union only takes care of the rookies. And the hell with the senior drivers

Alijah Rodriguez well, go on the MTA website and you should find a lot of info. From what I understand, there's a civil service exam, a drug test, and a LONG waiting list on average. You must also have a class B drivers license and a GED at minimum.
