Thanks JT for bringing us the good, the bad and the UGLY at bethel! @6:55...The Kingdom Hall was supposed to be dedicated to God and treated as holy. Now, you would definitely get counseled for going to a church service, church wedding, church funeral or your husband's paint business painting a church!! But if they sell a "holy" kingdom hall building to a church then that's ok!! Their hypocrisy is outstanding!!...They deserve a "Tony" award!! 🏆

We had song and dance routines at the KH back in the 70’s. There was a Watchtower article that came out, if I’m not mistaken, regarding the use of Kingdom Halls and the circuit overseer raked us over the coals. JT, another fantastic video. Thanks

@@michellem2042 the Jehovah's organization teaches that Jesus Christ came to destroy the law. But the truth is Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law. The law is found in Exodus chapter 20. We know it as the ten commandments. Thou shall have no idols before Me. Smack in the middle of the ten commandments is keep the Sabbath. So the Jehovah's witnesses discard the Sabbath, even though the scripture of Matthew 24 20. So IF the Jehovah's don't keep the commandments and follow the Sabbath, why should it surprise us that they bring idols into the temple. Idols were brought into the temple back in the old testament. Nothing about the Jehovah's organization surprise me! Nothing.

Absolutely love the life at bethel series. It’s like sitting with an uncle or cousin or cool family member telling everyone stories at a family gathering. Love it! I would like to ask at some point could you please do a video on the specific questions for ex jw’s to ask their current jw family members to get them thinking? Kind of like “wake up” questions to help those ones start to pay attention to the signs around them and slowly start to draw their own conclusions. You said in a previous video the best way to reach others is with questions and i do have a few but would love to add anything you come up with as well. Just something to cut that light bulb on in their “auto pilot” brains and get them thinking critically!

You are SO right. Those "Kingdom Halls" we're dedicated to God for "pure" worship. (I built a few) But what is dedicated to God is now being sold to ANYONE who will buy it. Other Religions, Animal clinics, law offices...to pay for law suites levied against them. For shame. One Saturday afternoon there was "the Hall cleaning". (Early 1970's) Wispers flew as to whether it was appropriate to serve hand cranked ice cream in the hall parking lot. Boy how times have changed. (So many more stories. Born in with an Elder father. I might have had questions but they were spoken cautiously.) Thank you for your stories. When I hear them I feel a strange, but familiar bond of what was.

Oh yeah...I remember the Lockers from when I was a kid JW. I also remember doing a few steps/moves from The Lockers dance routines at a few JW parties. Here’s a funny/peculiar thing. When a couple of us did some of the Lockers moves at JW parties/get togethers in New York (very near to Watchtower HQs) it was okay, the elders just looked and smiled. They never said a word about it. My family moves to Miami, I get invited to a wedding reception of a couple from my new congregation in Miami, I do the very same dance moves at the reception and, these elders didn’t like it at all. I got a talking to. Not any type of judicial committee or official disciplinary action, just a talking to. I was told something about certain behaviors not being proper for a Christian. This was the beginning of my awakening, I think. I remember thinking, wait, I didn’t do anything wrong, or immoral or sinful...or indecent. Why was this okay with the elders up in NYC and not with this new set of elders in Miami? They way they talked to me (I was 16 at the time and at that young age I had been a ministerial servant in my previous congregation in NYC) it was like, “how dare you dance like a worldly person in front of us elders?”. They told me that, dancing in such a manner was immoral and not proper for a Christian. It was the beginning of the end for me with Watchtower, I think. (BTW, this didn’t happen at the Kingdom Hall, this happened at a private hall that was rented for the wedding reception..) Funny, I had forgotten all about it until I saw your video. Watchtower has always been full of inconsistencies. Maybe you can confirm this JT. “Back in the day”, African American and Hispanic Bethelites were permitted to have mustaches. White, “anglo-saxon” brothers were not permitted to have mustaches or even semi long side burns. As far as I know this was an unwritten, unspoken rule but still, a very real rule that was enforced. Something to do with representing Jehovah’s people and something about what was “proper” for certain cultures was not “proper” for other cultures...it was kinda vague (like the rule against beards now) but...very real. I don’t know if you remember this JT. I remember that even back then I thought it was sorta strange but, I had been brainwashed by Watchtower so...at the time I just accepted it even if it may no sense to me. Thank you for your activism. 🤔🇨🇺🇺🇸

Got a good laugh from this one JT. You know, when we had parties in the hall when I was young, we'd sit in a line of chairs just like the Lockers, and get up one at a time and do our thing...and I even had one of their moves down to an art. And Herbie Hancock? ...reminds me of when we would throw down cardboard and breakdance to the Herbie Hancock, Chaka Khan, Run DMC, etc. Those D batteries in the boom box never seemed to last long enough!! Back on topic, yeah the rules can be changed at any moment. Mind you it's THEIR social club, so they can make up rules as they go, or change them on a whim. Funny thing is that the changes have nothing to do with God's spirit. Changes usually only occur when word gets out about what was done behind closed doors, they got bad PR on something, they're losing a lot of money on something, or a court case has forced them to re-examine their "superlative way" of doing things.

Theres a farely recent video of "Footloose" being played in a KH while about 10 JWs are on the stage dancing and the whole congregation are dancing in the seating area. Footloose movie was about rebellion. Ive seen at least 3 videos of JWs in KHs having "Worldly music" and everyone dancing like "Worldly People". And these aren't even for Assembly Delegates. I didnt say this to disagree with you but to let you know that recently the elders seem to be letting these things happen. I enjoyed your insight into this subject.

J.T. I have to admit, the only GB members I really liked were Gangas and Sydlic. They had a sense of humor, was approachable, and whenever I dined with them (many times) they were always consistent. You're absolutely right, most of the other GB members were just like the Muppets Statler & Waldorf👉🏽 Stiff as boards; uptight, mean, prejudice, holier-than-thou, judgmental, overrighteous, ready to zero in on what's wrong with you. They seem to gravitate towards people who were just like them; especially 👉🏽Jaracz, Kline, and Schroeder 🙄! And J.T., I couldn't STAND that BETHEL WALK😣😂! You know that shuffle EVERY Bethelite and C.O./D.O. seem to have👉🏽 That side-to-side God worshipping shuffle like they were ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS 😂😂😂😂😂😂! JT, thank you another great story. I think these are my favorite that you do. I notice you lightly referenced the cultural and racial disconnects that are often laced with responses to certain types of music at Bethel and at the Watchtower, Tract, and Bible Society. I did an exhaustive but rewarding research project (just for myself, but I did share it with a video) on the documented racism against African Americans and Africans at Bethel and in the JE teaching. Judging from the time you were at Bethel, I think latently you were dealing with some of that white supremacist ideology with music and dress. The glaring change from hip hop “Lockers” to the next year Harp and Flute classical music is a great example of what types of music is considered “acceptable”, which has a racial component. Reading the comments from the Watchtower gives a great backdrop to your story. I wish you well. Keep up the good work.

I was in charge of a cd player at one congregation based play, after the play we had food, drink (non alcohol) and music and dancing. I put "keep the faith" from bon jovi, and one elder deemed bon jovi too hedonistic so i had to switch to another song. I mean, "keep the faith"! Keep the friggin faith! A positive song, not "slippery when wet". I just left the cd player, poured myself some juice, took some snacks and never came near a cd player again. My decision, not theirs. Friggin moral thugs. Made me sick. So glad i'm out.

I've always had trouble in and out of the org in playing my classic rock. It was always deemed too shocking or not amongst the pop music of the day (disco) so I was never allowed to ever have my turn at the radio at work places etc. I mean jeez, the most horrible thing my classic rock ever said was "now you can kiss my A** goodbye in a song by Queen.

We often boasted about "loving parallel" standards throughout the earth but this was just parroting official nonsense because that is exactly what it was. There were discussions in the watchtower about the Scribes and Pharisees taking the prominent seats in the synagogues and how JWs avoid such practices. When in plain sight the advice would be completely ignored. At weddings and social gatherings there were the family Cliques of elders and their families and everyone else on the side lines if present at all. Their was always resentment and an undercurrent among the socially disenfranchised. And murmuring and complaining about the hypocrisy of it all. (Justifiably) When elders and their wives got to know about being called out for their hypocrisy they would go into siege mode and start weaving loaded comments about Korah into their Watchtower discussions and even scheduling "special talks" about the dangers of gossip and how elders are imperfect and how they are worthy of double honor and yet equal and ignoring the illogical juxtaposition. (George Orwel said"we are all equal but some are more equal than others") All this would in some cases lead to outright infighting in the congregation which would result in a circuit overseer "arbitrating" on his next visit. But if anyone was expecting the CO to set things right they would be sadly disappointed because CO's were from the same elite stock who were by default there to maintain the status quo and keep the "plebs" subdued. I've met some pretty obnoxious COs in my time and the act of trying to"convince" myself that these awful people were"latter day apostles" was a distressing fruitless endeavour that messed with your mind when it was as clear as day that they were wolves in wolves clothing. Any notion that what took place amounted to a "worldwide brotherhood" was pure self deception.

I have a suggestion. You showed some pictures of JT at bethel with relatively large groups of other JWs whose faces were smudged to protect their privacy. Because of the relatively large groups, it takes a while to finally identify JT's face, but by then maybe the video might cut to a different picture. My suggestion to avoid this is to maybe put a red circle around JT's face for the first couple seconds when the image comes on screen so the viewer's attention is immediately drawn to where JT is. Maybe it could even be blinking for a short while. Whatever is easy for you.
