one thing about this announcement that pisses me off, is all those people that have been at bethel for most of their lives and they have been so devoted to their cause, are going to be coming back to our communities. Hello I'm kind of aware of something they've done in the last 10 years. They consolidated all over the country. I saw this in my own area as they closed down many Kingdom Halls and built a nice big one with several mini Kingdom Halls within. When they closed down all those satellite KH's they made out like bandits selling the properties. I had an Elder tell me gloatingly what a great move it was because they made a small fortune locally. This mega Hall was all built by volunteers anyway and they negotiated well, made millions on the consolidation as the closed Kingdom halls sold very well. This is the Syracuse area..but I heard it happened all over. They should be flush with money if the same thing happened in other regions. I kind of thought it put a finacial stress on many of their people because instead of having halls all over suddenly people had to drive 20+ more miles 3 times a week at least...but they were possessively giddy over how well this vast consolidation move had profited the organization. He actually said closing just one hall and selling it in it's prime location as a nice property made more money than what they spent on the new Mega Hall...so if they did this everywhere...where's all this new windfall money gone?

+Lou Cee yeah all I see is a big financial strain on their members as they closed all the outlying satellite halls forcing them to all drive to one singular location. I mean people from 35 miles away from this location, had the option of reaching a KH in 15 minutes, are now driving 45 minutes/6 times a week at least..little things like that tend to put a huge strain on loyalty..in a religion that has a 10-1 ex members to current members ratio going anyway. How in the world are you going to convince a new person from those outlying areas to do this? I get it, the JW'S are centralizing in cities, going after minorities. However someday soon somebodies going to speak up and say "Hey, if we're 70% black and Hispanic now, why is the leadership all old white guys?"

One has to ask, what's the "why?" Surely when they started these construction projects, they must have felt this was the "best use of dedicated funds," they must have calculated the cost beforehand, as the scriptures direct. So what has changed? Why are they scaling back on a large scale? It should be obvious that more is driving these actions than deciding suddenly to "make the best use of dedicated funds" halfway through all these construction projects. His remarks about kingdom halls do not indicate anything significant since the Society doesn't actually pay for these halls. They used to lend the money, then charge interest from the brothers and sisters who paid for the hall. Later, if the hall was sold (after it had built equity), those brothers and sisters didn't get their money back. So halls could be money-makers. He then says, "Please be assured that these adjustments aren't being made because of a lack of financial support on your part." Notice he doesn't say "a lack of adequate funds"? This is an interesting statement. Yes, remaining members may be sending in donations, so while it is truthful that they are supporting the work, this does not mean that what they are donating is enough to finance this corporation. Words can paint a favorable impression without revealing the full picture. He switches immediately and talks about the response to their virtual sites... but... response and site visits do not translate into dollars, do they? One has to wonder if the Society knows of changes coming to tax laws and they are taking preemptive steps to reduce the financial impact when the other shoe drops, as they did with the literature when the tax laws changed. He makes a number of contradictory statements: unprecedented expansion (scaling back in a major manner), best use of dedicated funds (building projects, branches/Bethels were touted as necessary to further the work, so funding went to these). He then says they desire to give priority to activities that contribute the most to the spiritual welfare of God's people/advancement of the global preaching work (letting longtime Bethelites go, reducing number of meetings per week, nixing building projects that were said to be critical to advancing the good news). And predictably, he doesn't elaborate on these statements to explain how all these cutbacks will accomplish this, instead, he claims that reduced publication of the public magazines is because there is too much spiritual food (an abundance of spiritual food was said to be "food at the proper time" and necessary, as were all those meetings). It will be interesting to watch and wait for the REAL picture to emerge.

I'll tell you why I dislike the JW's.There's one at my work in a low grade management position., and I kind of had him pegged as one before I found out he was indeed one. Plain and simple..he dresses like a current JW. Short hair(honestly the kind of hair cut only JW's have nowadays) He's arrogant as all hell and nobody likes him. People make comments about his arrogance all the time and looking down on people attitude. He's a prick in other ways too. And unknown to most people as one. And that's why he acts like such a little prick to people, because..HE FEELS HE CAN GET AWAY WITH IT! Slight build, not handsome, but goes around like he thinks he's George Clooney. Sure enough, one day there's an Elder I maintain a cordial relationship with, and we're just lightly conversing and he walks over and says hi to the guy by name. I say how do you know him and he says he's a brother. Ever since then the guy avoids me like the plague! Possibly think I'm a JW and might report his being an a-hole out of school back on him. Out of over 600 people I work with..this guy is the one person set off my JW radar blaring! It's because Male dominance is so heavily preached within their religion, after years of that many of the young 20 somethings?..they just plain stink of it!

The end began for the Watchtower in 1968 when the news went public that the members of Bethel, including most of the governing body, were homosexual and living a homosexual lifestyle in the Bethel home. I knew many who were in the factory section of the complex and they were restricted to the printing facility because they were straight and wouldn't understand the 'ways of Jehovah' as regards the special gifts given to homosexuals. The men who kept the society growing were forced to leave after admitting their ways and I lived in a town in California where many of them moved, and where many of the governing body came to 'become husbands of one wife', that is,where they took a beard wife to hide their true nature. I believe that was the end of the Society, because they lost their best people from a business standpoint. Between that, and the fact that they were shown to be false prophets, the Society began to drown in its own hypocrisy.
