Worked with 3 phase drives and they all had resistor based precgarge circuits. I wonder why the inverter manufacturers don’t do the same.

In a surge of current, capacitors look like a short. If you add a Choke inline that Choke looks like a huge resistor to fast current. Then as the caps charge, the Choke is basically a wire now. Chokes are basically a coil of wire, sometimes with an iron core.

What type of resistor should I choose when I want to connect my ebike battery? It's not a big spark but my connector gets burned and maybe eventually won't be able to get a good connection. So I want to implement some type of precharge.
@jayzo2 жыл бұрын
Would this not be simpler by wiring a breaker switch to disconnect the battery from its Anderson connector? Also that Jigo is clearly counterfeit, the colour of anderson connectors denote a different keying and I'm pretty sure the Jigo is just a grey connector keying but for some reason blue plastic.

Or you could use as150 ? Trying my first battery and I didnt want to use anderson as I've read the contact blow after several spark, and I found as150 :) I even found a plastic holder to fix it in the battery case...

thanks for the info, how do we determine how much voltage is enough to precharge is there some sort of magic ratio?
@Sean_Cockrell5 ай бұрын
Pre-charge to the same voltage as the battery pack and there wont be any sparks. Easiest way is to use a resistor in series for a few seconds then your voltage will match

Quick question, are the inverters also paralleled on the AC side, It looks like that, or is it just 2 into one AC.

@Goodkiwibloke6 ай бұрын
Use a precharge unit. It's an electronic timer with a small relay that switches a resistor across the main contactor for a few seconds before sending a control signal to the main contactor to close.
@chrisw14622 жыл бұрын
Should be easy to make an inrush limiter with a couple high-power plugs so you can put it in-line with your inverter.

Amplifiers and inverters are expensive. Pre-charge is an absolute must

What about those inverters? Are they any good? I mean I see you use them, so I guess they are. Do they have warranty or something? Will they perform after 20 years?

You can use a soft starter Sir but it can't handle the 4kwh pack until we connect them in Parallel just like the inverters ;)

Capacitors are designed to discharge their energy almost instantly. Therefore it will charge it's energy almost instantly if enough available current is applied.

I have a solar inverter. What can I use to charge the caps?
@TheTimshady3372 жыл бұрын
A resistor in series with the power. I keep a wired headlight bulb just for that

@@TheTimshady337 what resistor? Headlight bulb? Not sure

If a 12v battery, an incandescent automobile light bulb in series with the incoming power. If 48v battery, I was thinking about a 110v incandescent bulb, since this should not blow out… I will be trying this over the next couple months as I am building a higher voltage battery bank. Hybrid cars use an automatic mechanism to apply a large resistor to pre-charge the capacitors, before using a relay to apply the rest of the DC voltage to the in-car inverter
@TheTimshady3372 жыл бұрын
@@taniksambo1969 you can use almost any resistor or regular light bulb 💡 as a way to prevent all the current to flow at once. I usually connect the ground. Then connect a wired headlight 💡 in between the battery + and the inverter. The light bulb will go dim or out when precharged
@taniksambo19692 жыл бұрын
@@TheTimshady337 so with a light bulb. You would connect it to the battery then to the inverter? Or just use the positive from the battery to the bulb then the bulb to the positive on the inverter?

for plug-in items I've been using switch taps for a while and this problem is completely eliminated it's a portable outlet with a switch on it that plugs into the powered outlet so the circuit is closed faster than the spark can form this is mainly useful for power adapters not inverters though, that's a different beast, do what Jehu says for those Or the anti-spark XT connectors, but make extra sure you fully connect(insert) them. Not so fast that they don't have time to get the voltage up though. Yes I know they use a resistor

I would get a Dual Battery bank DC Rotary Selection Switch Add A Resistor or String Series 12V incandescent Car Lamps to bank 2 Side of the Switch When you First Connect you Rotate the switch to Bank 2 to Pre pilot - Precharge the caps ((if you using incandescent it will let you know when the caps are ready by going Dim or Off - note just very bright in cap Charging )) then you know to switch to Bank 1 for main Direct DC Run Other notes this Does Not work With LEDs (it will just eat them alive Due to the Zero impedance of caps Temp want 5000A) Other Circuits -> Thyristor triac (self limiting) - Thyristor Heating Element (self limiting) - DC DC Regulator Converter With Self Limiting - latching DC Latching Relay / Switching DC Contactor with memory - RC / Ebike / EV ESC Speed controller (PWM) - or mosfet (PWM) or variable-voltage/variable-frequency (VVVF) drive
@pashko902 жыл бұрын
Actually, cheapest high power "resistors" are car bulbs. But in a good device precharge circut supposed to be already implemented inside of device.

@pashko907 ай бұрын
@@mrtechie6810 they are available to buy. 120v will work too. You just need to figure out what current is acceptable for you and you can add or remove some. As well you can for 48v put 4 12v bulbs in series connection, it will do a trick too.

Usually I precharge my inverter by connecting a 30ohm 10W ceramic capacitor from the positive lead of my battery to the positive input of my inverter.
@1Hippo2 жыл бұрын
You mean resistor, not capacitor
@jbrdddd2 жыл бұрын
Or you could just have an xt90 anti-spark in parallel with the Anderson connector, cheaper and easier.
@1Hippo2 жыл бұрын
Good tip! I was wondering whole video if he also shows resistors for precharging, it is really nice to have it builtin these XT90-S.
@jbrdddd2 жыл бұрын
@@mofoq probably not, because everything that uses this much current should have the pre-charge circuit built-in. But these dodgy Chinese inverters don't.
@sydneyg0072 жыл бұрын
or "AN150's" (xt150 anti spark) if you need more grunt! Also - The reason you get the spark isn't the size of the battery or inverter its the difference in voltage that induces a large current rush into the capacitors. 12volt systems obviously don't suffer as much as the higher voltage (48v) systems.
@themadatheist19762 жыл бұрын

Funny how pre-charging inverters, amps, items with caps is often promoted but then everyone puts large dissconnect switches inline and of course no precharge ever happens.
