I like how the symbiote is portrayed on Peter. He couldn’t take control of his emotions and was struggling against the symbiote from a physical standpoint and a mental standpoint. More and more he began to fight like a mindless berserker. When the story got to the Miles fight he was so manipulated he literally wasn’t even Peter anymore! But he’s such a badass with the suit on and Yuri put up a 10/10 performance!!!

Something I did appreciate in this game, the Symbiote isn’t making Peter angry. Peter’s frustration is his own (and it’s justified, Kraven just popped outta nowhere and ruined everything), and the suit is helping him act on that frustration. And that, in turn, is corrupting it too. It sorta harkens to the original black suit, ya know?

If you pay close attention to dialogue you’ll notice harry “talking to his mother” while in treatment. It was the symbiote. I don’t have it all here but I can tell you Peter did not make the symbiote evil in this storyline as much as I actually like that idea. It was already planning on taking over the world, it just forgot what it’s purpose was UNTIL you touch the meteorite again and it remembers it coming down here, that it has a purpose, combine that with eventually getting on harry and it uses the fact it spoke to him in his mothers voice to manipulate him into finalizing its plan and “healing the world”. In comics venom was never inherently evil, it was mad at spiderman for rejecting it. Eventually being good. In this story venom is inherently evil, and it’s host isnt. So, it has to manipulate harry into thinking he’s doing the world a favor. He never even came to terms with the fact he’d ever fight Peter, by the time you’re at the final fight and he shows his face he’s confused and scared. Also, upset that the suit has taken control of his body completely, trying to destroy Peter and miles. Basically what I’m trying to explain is the symbiote is evil from the beginning, it just doesn’t remember exactly what it needs to do until after the second lizard encounter

I wish the developers would've just made the Symbiote Spider-Man saga go on for just a little bit longer. Like, I really wish that Black Cat was a part of Peter's story in the Symbiote saga instead of basically being an Easter egg cameo for Miles. If Black Cat was a part of the Symbiote Spider-Man saga, she could've been a true foil for Mary Jane as Peter would've been able to adhere to Felica's more care-free morally ambiguous nature with the Symbiote greying all of Peter's actions and amplifying his aggression towards criminals. Since Cat would know this would eventually include herself, she could've been the one to suggest that Peter remove himself from the Symbiote's influences or something. It's not a perfect draft, and I know the developers were aiming for a certain time frame, but I do wish that saga went on for a bit longer.

Interestingly, Harry seems to be fine when he initially wore the suit. No mood swings or negative emotions until it bonded with Peter, and got way more aggressive when Peter touched the meteorite and Dr Connors said they need to destroy the symbiote. I'm wondering if Harry still would've become evil if neither of those situations occurred.

Let’s be honest, Mary Jane is the reason things fell apart with regards to Venom and… well everyone. Look at things from Venom’s perspective, it’s busy protecting it’s host, who’s exhausted and asleep, all of a sudden they’re being attacked by Miles who previously Venom assumed was it’s host’s friend and by proxy, it’s. So, trust is shaky now, Venom is starting to panic because it and Peter are now seemingly trapped, hence why Venom seemed at first more concerned with getting out of the tunnel then dealing with Mary Jane. Then, again from Venom’s perspective, MJ uses sound to start hurting them, so again its trust is breaking until MJ stops the drill thing from making that sound. Now at this point Venom is confused but is willing to to give MJ a chance, hence why the mask retracted, Venom assumed she actually was trying to help out and since Peter trusted her, it should too. Then Mary Jane used her taser and any trust fit held for her, little as it was, shattered and it once again went into full on survival/protection mode regardless of why she did it. What everyone did wrong when it came to Venom was assume it wasn’t intelligent enough to understand what was going on, hence why it became so vindictive and lashed out later on against everyone, it was, from its perspective, simply responding in kind to how it’s been treated.

FINALLY someone who understands how the symbiote works, sometimes it overwhelms me that everyone thinks that the symbiote is a being of pure evil, when in fact the situations that it lived and the people with whom it was related were what shaped his personality, literally the first thing the symbiote does when it sees that Peter is hurt is to protect him and heal him because it knows how much Harry loves Peter, but when he saw how bad Peter was (both physically and psychologically) he decided to stay with him to try to cure him, Peter feeling more free took out all his frustration and anger that he has been holding for years, which negatively influenced the symbiote making it aggressive.

Counterpoints. The Symbiote immediately tries bonding itself to Peter the moment it and Harry realize Peter is Spiderman. This clearly indicates that it's primary concern wasn't to "protect it's host" because it bonding to Peter would mean dooming Harry, it's current host. Later events clearly imply that the main reason it wanted to bond to Peter was because Peter's unique biology empowered it and allowed it to spread all over the city. The fact that it was able to influence Harry's dreams and masquerade itself as his mother to stoke his desire to "heal the world" also suggests an intelliigence with motives beyond "just protect host". So from the very beginning, we can infer that the Symbiote always intended to infect multiple hosts and spread over the Earth. You can argue that Harry influenced the Symbiote and not the other way around, but the last chapters of the game clearly establish that Harry is out of the driver's seat; he immediately realizes that what he's doing is wrong the moment the Symbiote loses it's influence over him. The Symbiote Invasion is clearly an idea the Symbiote had, not Harry. I don't think the Symbiote is pure evil but it's not this misunderstood entity that isn't malevolent or dangerous of treated kindly. It's a sentient virus. It's primary goal is to ensure it's survival. And the logical conclusion to ensure it's survival would be to obtain multiple hosts. It's as simple as that.

@@Birthday888 I haven't followed along with the whole "Knull" thing since that's a fairly recent inclusion I think, but it kinda goes back and forth on it depending on the universe it's in but the general canon is that the symbiote is benevolent and takes on the subconscious and conscious traits of whatever host it's attached to, both to keep it's host healthy and happy while reaching it's end-goal of complete synchronization, as for this universe specifically I feel like there's enough ambiguity regarding it's intentions and influences that lands Venom squarely in the center of interpretation. To me Venom/Peter was mostly fine until Venom reconnected with the meteorite/Knull hivemind and Connors mentioned removing it from Peter and destroying the symbiote, that put Venom in survival mode in my opinion, that and being exposed to Kraven's "hunting ground".

At least until it reconnects back with the hivemind. Like, turning MJ into Scream and then making her fight Pete was 100% just the Symbiote being petty towards Peter.

Honestly, the ONLY gripe I have with this game is that Peter’s part in the story is significantly better than Miles’… at least from a writing perspective that is. Better drama, impact, tension, relationships, and so many epic moments. Miles is a great character but every time I play as him I just want to switch back to Peter in order to advance Peter’s side of the story :/ But after I finished the game… Half of me praises the game but half of me says it’s so obvious they nerfed Peter and made Miles stronger. It’s even more obvious that come the final act (Venom to the end), they tried so freaking hard to make Miles cooler than Peter and seem to be intending to use him to replace Peter (who’s significantly more interesting and complex). Peter literally said to Miles “Why would the city need me when it has you?”, trying to tell the audience that Miles is a better Spider-Man than Peter in almost every way. As a humongous Spider-Man fan, they totally disrespected Peter and it honestly ruined the game for me. Well, at least Super Mario Wonder is fantastic! The only thing I like as much as Spider-Man is the Super Mario franchise :D

I'm not gonna lie, I don't care for miles. I'm a Spider-Man fan, and to me that means PETER PARKER. Calling Miles Morales 'Spider-Man' is like calling Dick Grayson 'Batman' just because he puts on the costume a few times in the comics, yet no one does that for batman, so why does Peter always have to share the limelight in modern Spider-Man media? After all the constant shit Peter is been through, now he cant even be the sole Spider-Man? To me, Miles is a giant distraction from the main event, and it shows in the writing of this game, which is clearly focused ENTIRELY on Peter. Even Miles's game felt more like a DLC than a proper Spider-Man game. Don't get me wrong, Miles is a good character, but to me he will never be Spider-Man, no matter how hard Sony and Insomniac push him to be accepted.

Many people are saying Peter is weak in this game, he is not, there are couple of feats:- 1. Catching a debris while saving tombstone with Harry as agent venom. 2. Stopping roller coaster, single handled the track 💪 while holding the roller coaster with other hand until Harry came. ( Very good feat ). 3. Catching an armoured APC ( a crime during open gameplay) above his shoulder. 4. In Wraith side mission, he stopped the train momentum and got stucked, still he stopped it. But couldn't lift it off it because he was exhausted. ( Still one of the best feats ).

By the way, the reason Peter technically died before the Suit got onto him. Is because that Blade was coated with a Deadly liquid. Kraven Intended to KILL he doesn't let any of his Targets Survive if he can't get a good fight he Kills them. Plus, he snapped Scorpion's Neck and took some Poison from him.

Fun fact: The angle of the suit making Peter angry wasn't introduced until the 90s cartoon. Initially the whole thing why Peter got upset while having the black suit in the comics was because when Peter would go to sleep the Symbiote would take control of his body and go out and swing around then return before he woke up therefore when he woke up every morning he would feel super exhausted and the more tired you feel the more cranky and antsy you'll start to become. So he wasn't necessarily having his personality changed to be more angry he was just irritated on how tired he was feeling and took it out on the people around him.

Here’s my issue with the way the symbiote was portrayed in this game and how it affected Pete. Now don’t get me wrong I absolutely loved it and it was so fun playing with the black suit, but the anger Pete let out a lot of times with the suit seemed a bit forced. Like as soon as he got the suit suddenly he has beef with everyone and cops a bad attitude. Ppl forget the symbiote in the comics and even Spider-Man 3 enhanced ALL of Pete’s emotions and even his ego. The scene where he’s walking around all cool and flirting with the ladies, acting cocky towards JJJ while putting his feet on the desk, having that diva sort of style, it was a great representation of how the symbiote affected Pete. Where as in this game, it seems to only enhance his frustration and it’s not even like there’s a build up to his anger being let out over time he just suddenly starts talking shit to everyone
