something I used to do a lot (but haven't in a while and want to get back to) is treating my sketchbook almost like a diary? At some point during the day I would try to remember what stood out most to me and would draw it from memory or over exaggerate what really happened. Sometimes I'd even draw my misconception of what I thought happened (I once saw a man walking his dog but I was zoning out when I saw it so for a second I thought it was a kangaroo? so I drew that instead). It's a really fun exercise to kind of let go and because you focus more on the memory instead of an accurate representation it feels more free to draw and there's not a lot of pressure on getting everything to look exactly the way it happened.

I loved hearing your art goals! I too feel pretty rigid in my sketchbook, especially with subject matter! I find that I'm much more adventurous when I block out large chunks of time for drawing. No pressure of having to rush! I hope you acheive your art goals!

Yess, I'm also becoming rigid with the subject matter!! I wanna just draw more interesting stuff :0

I've always loved your creatures, like your rock gardens and your island animals! I'd love to see even more interesting and weird things! Myself I'm trying to focus on more regular streams, and more full illustrations next year. I don't want to overload myself by tacking on too many goals.
@JelArts46 минут бұрын
Yes that's exactly what I mean! Those rock gardens and weird stuff like that!

I love how those frogs turned out! And your goals for the next year sound like they'll be really good for you. My biggest goal is probably going to be using up a bunch of watercolour paper I seem to have collected, hopefully to push me into doing more finished pieces on paper/not just in my watercolour sketchbooks.
@JelArts45 минут бұрын
Oh man I also have some scrap watercolour paper I need to use up. That's a good idea!

Such cute Frogs, loved watching the process of them coming to live. As a traditional artist, I support your goal of making more traditional paintings ! My resolution for next year is just surviving the year, not having the best months health wise

Hope your year goes better than expected! Take care of yourself!

I did love it and I want to say that I like your goals and I will be looking forward to seeing you being more free in your work. Also love the idea of you inventing new things and themes and it feels as if this is exactly what you need right now. My goals are to ditch my hardwired perfectionism, fill my sketchbook aaand have fun with it!

Theres smaller canvas panels so the transition isnt so jarring! I suggest getting some that are smaller or the size of yoyr sketchbook. Also they can stand a lotta abuse so if you hate it, you can paint over it again.
@JelArts47 минут бұрын
It's moreso the texture that I'm not a fan of. I think I prefer painting on paper! More of a soft texture. I know you can prime & sand canvases too so I could try that. I did tons of traditional painting in art school but I used illustration board! I just remembered that haha. I should get some of that again.
