Simple recipe that's a good substitute for those jello-fruit cups at the store.

Good call on the juice. I always wondered how to get the fruit off the bottom. My mother use to make Jello with fruit as a kid i never ask questions, i just ate.

My mother taught me to let the jello semi set, then take the drained fruit and mix it around and put it back in fridge. This is supposed to set with the fruit all evenly mixed with the jello. It works!

Thank you for explaining how to do it! I always wanted to make it! Now I know how. Very thankful. And yeah my favourite it peaches in a can. The fresh ones are just so hard and not that good!

With all due respect, the water should be ice cold not from the tap. Secondly, the gelatin should chill and be slightly thickened before adding the fruit not put in right after the cold water. That is what helps to keep the gelatin in suspension.

Like it! The only comment I have is maybe put the canned fruit in the refrigerator for an hour and then the liquid will be cold.

Thank you so much for this. My husband loves the mandarin oranges in gel fruit cups for work lunches, but they're expensive (and usually out of stock). I followed a recipe online and the jello never set properly. I'm going to try again with your method😊

I prefer to make it in 1/2 pint ball jars for single servings. Leave a little room on top for whipped topping...

What will work in place of the juice if you don't use canned fruit?
@danrt509 жыл бұрын
+Melissa0774 you could either puree a small amount of fruit and mix with water to get equivalent amount, or use whatever fruit juice you like (not pineapple, it won't gel)
@Melissa07749 жыл бұрын
+danrt50 So, how many cups of juice do you use, or how much water do you add to it, if you're using canned fruit juice? You added water to the juice in the video, but you didn't say how much.
@danrt509 жыл бұрын
Melissa0774 2 cups total volume of liquid, water or juice. i didn't measure the juice, just topped it up to 2 cups with water

I bought 2 boxes of Jell O pineapple flavor. I cut some cubes of natural pineapple into small tubs, I did this same process (you don't have to study a master's degree to prepare jellies of this type either) in 750 ml of mineral water and surprisingly, it NEVER solidified. A little frustrated the next day, after having the tubs in the fridge for more than 12 hours, so as not to throw away the preparation I went to the supermarket for a couple more packages of flavorless gelatin from this same brand, I poured the previous mixture into a saucepan and I added the 8 packets of unflavored Jell O and it still didn't help. It was always liquid. I guess that the takeaway about all this is: I will never ever buy any Jell O brand preparations again.
@danrt502 жыл бұрын
actually it's the natural pineapple, contains bromelain, that's why it didn't gel. i think there's actually a caution on the box

@@danrt50 I wanted to apologize for my previous comment. I felt very frustrated. I was researching a bit about jellies and this curious annihilating effect that the pineapple has when it comes into contact with it, preventing gelation. However, I don't know how my mother managed to break the laws of chemistry, but I remember a couple of times that she prepared my brothers and my pineapple jelly with natural pineapple chunks for snacks (and we are a family of seven sibling) I have asked my older brothers to be sure of that, just in case my memory deceives me, and they know It was pineapple in syrup, but no, they also claim that it was fresh fruit, among other things because my parents never bought canned fruit. Thank you very much for the information dear friendI really appreciate the time you took to write me the comment. By the way, I don't remember reading any note about this on the jellies packaging.
