I just love this video. My grandmother taught me how to sew (more like the BARE basics). From that, I would make many little things for my dolls. Eight times out of 10 the seams would never align, but being a child, I was still having fun. This video, which I stumbled upon MONTHS & MONTHS ago, and which I've watch repeatedly, has slowly inspired me to take the task ofmaking my 1st quilt. Hi Kimberly! I absolutely love how you teach. I made the Jelly Roll Jam with one half of the jelly roll and then the Jelly Roll Jam II with the other half. I loved them both and it was like they each had their own personalities even using the same fabric. It was amazing! I made different borders for them and they turned out really cute. No, never pre-wash any pre-cut fabric. If you must wash, wait until the entire quilt is finished.

Pressing is really a personal preference. I think people who press open like it because the seams are flatter. I think people who press to one side like it because your seams will nest! My preference is to press to one side unless my block is bulky and has a lot of seams (then I would press open). Thanks for your question.

Did you know that if you sew the strips together from opposite ends then you won't have the bulge or wavy centers in your strips.

....you can also just cut them in half before sewing them all together...makes them more manageable, and you have plenty of length anyway. plus....all that hard ironing probably distorted them...they should be pressed more gently

Hi Joyce! Our first cut is to straighten the edge of the stripset. Then we flip it around to start cutting our blocks, starting from that straightened edge.

I'm going to start setting my seams first, never done that before. Also I've been ironing the seams open, which caused issues in my earlier quilts. I'm hoping that the seams nest better when ironing to one side instead open. This is a great video!! Than you!
