I have 2 Ibanez RG. RG450 and RG370. I put a Gotoh 1996t and its worth the $100. Huge upgrade. Both guitars are floating and I never go out of tune.

the reason why the new bridge cannot work very well because you didn't install the gotoh studs. This is based on my experience because I do the same mod as you are and our guitar and bridge is exactly the same, JEM JR and GOTOH GE1996T

I've seen other videos on the trem replacement with a original floyd Rose and he just unscrewed the 2 trem posts and installed the née floyd posts. He didn't have to remove the threaded scrub housing. Couldn't you do thus with this trem?

They drilled the trem post holes too close toward the bridge p'u at the factory on that Jem! Your smartest move is too fill those old holes and re drill for the Gotoh bushings at the proper distance. I would not advise to use the Cheap posts that the Jem jr comes with. It is a softer cheaper metal and will not get the GOTOH back to it's zero point. IF your guitar previously had a OFR then you can use the same posts.
@olivervixiennedominic67373 жыл бұрын
The posts you're using are small. You should get them installed. And go ahead and buy those gotoh locking nuts. 43mm is the ghl model. Locks better than the stock ones and also lasts longer.

The orginal stremolo studs needs to be replaced do to soft metall in the orginal Ib jem jr trem.Does Gotoh trem have better material quality like the baseplate knife edges/pivot points?

What size dremmel did you use and how much did you have to shave off?
@domoniquebrooks8164 ай бұрын
DO NOT keep the stock studs when switching your trem to a Gotoh 1996T. Gotoh profiles the 1996T knife edges differently to reduce wear and increase stability, it is a stated feature of the trem. The posts it comes with are designed to compliment that knife edge. Which is why in his case, it doesn't return to zero when diving. Use the studs it came with. You don't need a professional to increase the stud hole size if you have the most basic understanding of how to use a drill, it's not that complicated. if you're careful, work slowly, and use the right size bit, you should be fine.

He said he used 33, and i am curious why. The stock Ibanez one is 35...not sure what size to buy as well.

Not changing the post's defeats the purpose of putting the thing on in the first place. Stock ones are different type of metal and will wear out much faster thus making the knifes dull and blurred. Not good

Do I need to drill? Or is it perfect replacement ?
@JunoWho2 Жыл бұрын
You dont NEED to drill but it’s recommended to use the included Gotoh studs instead of the stock ones. It’s essentially a perfect replacement other than the stud change. I brought my guitar to a luthier to drill the holes for me because I wanted it to be as best as possible. It will definitely work without drilling.

The threads on the Gotoh posts are coarse not more finer threaded so to use the Gotoh posts you have to drill out to the larger sized of the Gotoh housing or bushing etc that come in the tremelo kit.. so the answer is "No" to your question.

why block off the ability to pull back? if you set up a Gotoh (go-toe-h not go-tahhh) 1996T properly, you will not go out of tune, those trems are perfectly capable of returning to zero point every single time. If it is going out of tune after pulling hard back, it means those stock tremolo stud posts NEED TO GO.... if its not worth doing yourself or paying someone to put the higher quality gotoh studs in, its kind of pointless to install that good of a tremolo in your guitar.... Also, when you go to adjust your action... all you need do is detune.... DO NOT loosen spring tension, its not necessary and it makes it all the more difficult to retune the guitar up to pitch... only creating more work for no benefit. the more often you can keep your springs and spring claw in the properly tensioned position compared to your strings, the more reliable your tuning stability will consistently be, even from string change to string change...
