Actually | was surprised to find out that in practice it was super easy to work with FR compared to calibrating a vintage six-point to please you while not going out of pitch easily. If you have a good OFR/Edge type and a good setup to begin with, it's peanuts, really. They stay in tune as well as any unabused fixed bridge even when heavily abused, if all is setup ok. I love my OFR-equipped Ibanez RG (don't ask why OFR) :)

You are the very best luthier/tech on the whole internet. You get right to the point, with relevent information that few others would nøt share even if they were aware of such insights... and you do so without any fluff, gimmicks, or marketeering. Better yet, you are a humble and gracious soul without the annoying ego-seeking insecurities and bad habits that other 'guitar gods' put first and foremost in their videos. You make videos about guitars, and their idiosyncracies, and you educate your viewers while the other wannabes make videos about themselves, if they can stay focused at all. YOU have set a new standard, and a righteous format that all youtube channelers should seek to attain. For all of that my dear friend, you earn my highest respect. Thank you. Sincerely.

Fantastic video thank you! After years of frustration playing Gibson, Fender, PRS, and other guitars that would not stay in tune, now I only play Floyd Rose guitars. This design is complex and does require a specific knowledge base to maintain tuning and intonation, but from my experience playing guitar for 50+ years the effort required to learn how to fix the issues presented in this video is a small price to pay for perfect tuning and intonation! Thank you my friend for taking the time to share your wisdom with us!

I had a really young guy part-exchange a Dean Razorback in my shop for a Schecter. He just couldn't get along with the Floyd, but I feel that the shop that sold it to him (he was a complete newbie) should have made it crystal clear what the difference was, and that he would need to familiarise himself with the system. It freaked him out and he just wanted rid of it...

Good video. I love my Floyd Rose! I wanted to point out a problem I had. Mine would make a "click" sound when you pressed down the arm. Drove me crazy. Sometimes it would go away. Couldn't tell where it was coming from. Sounded like it was the springs or the bridge hitting the pick guard. In that area, or maybe the bolt on neck complaining, but it was not. It was those screws that hold on the nut. They were loose, so the whole nut was moving when I pressed down on the tremolo arm. Since most nuts are glued in place, I didn't think about it until I started doing some online research. Fixed it last night after suffering with it for years. Works great now. Smooooth and silent!! Never did have any tuning issues. Maybe that will help someone out. Cheers!

I have an Epiphone by Gibson Strat copy HSS that the factory Floyd Rose they installed disintegrated when I went to clean it. I eventually bought a new real Floyd rose> Installing it I had to plug the rocker studs and re-drill those holes twice. getting this bridge reinstalled without knowing a thing was a bear. I have encountered every one of these problems. I have watched more videos by Frudua and he has never given me miss information, and he always shares freely his knowledge. To people like myself he is a real blessing, and to my guitars. They are finally behaving the way they should. I have completely re-vamped the electrical and added Dimarzio PAF DP261FCR bridge with true Velvet middle and neck, It has push pull switches three separate tone controls Bridge is series/Parallel as well as phase switchable. The mid and neck are phase switchable. I also have a bridge neck combo switch as my 5 way super switch has two modes. This guitar after watching these videos sounds totally high dollar ! Originally bought the guitar off of e-bay and it was so unused that the plastic coating was on all the plastic covers. with Case for $90. When asked why he sold it he said he had too many guitars and was letting some of the ones he doesn't play go. I just imagine it was the Floyd rose that sealed the deal.

Really cool in-depth little tutorial on things that can certainly happen however i do have a problem and looked all over the interwebs and gootube to no answer, my problem is after i set everything up and back in tune for the 1000th time if i bend the whammy bar too much which isn’t very much up or down a spring in the back pops off the bottom of the bridge! This of course throws everything out of whack resulting in pretty much doing a whole new set up because in order to get the spring back on you have to pretty much back out the spring screws all the out and in order to do that you have to loosen the the strings almost to the point where you would be restringing the guitar so you dont snap a string plus having as much play as possible to get the spring back on .The very first time it happened i didnt know any of this and fought well over 4 hrs with a pair of needle nose and a screw driver,let me tell ya, not only was it extremely hard getting that spring back on but extremely dangerous, after the 4th or 5th time this had happened I decided to shim the spring hole ,this is a pain as well but putting the thinness part of the high E string in the hole with the spring , its a super tight fit but dont pop out anymore,Thumbs up and subbed

That's what I have. It's good and bad. The tremolo block doesn't have as much wieght, and the strings running straight won't be very good for sustain as well. The good is not cutting ball ends and the whammy bar uses a threaded non sleeved bar, which doesn't rattle around and stays in place using a wrench to install

Good stuff. Even if your string tree is set correctly and your lock nut mounting bolts are tight, you may experience the flat/sharp string issue. This is due to mass manufacturing, where tighter tolerances aren't feasible. As you tighten the string clamp bolt clockwise, it will ever so slighty turn the clamp clockwise as well. This means the high E will go flat, and the B will go sharp. Same effect with the other two pairs of strings. Original hand made Floyds did not have this issue, as they were made one at a time, with extremely tight tolerances. That's not to say all newer Floyds have this issue, some are better than others. Good call out on the buzzing at the nut and what happens when the brass insert falls out. For the latter, i wouldn't recommend attempting a repair with super glue - just buy a new saddle. Keep up the good work!

I was getting the open-string buzz on the D string on two different Floyd-equipped guitars. I tried your method of unlocking the string and pushing it to the side, and it totally worked! It does affect the tuning of everything else (because the D string is slightly flat after pushing it over, which makes the other strings go sharp), but now I know what to look out for when I do a string change. I'm so glad I didn't pay a tech to alter the bridges on my guitars. THANK YOU!

That's precious again, Galeazzo! You da man! :-) Two other problems I've encountered lastly, about the locking nut, the place where it rests on the neck, so the locking nut to be tighten on it, it was curved! (a shame about a brand new guitar) It involved some noise when the whammy bar was used up or down (crack! crack!) . And we could see the nut shifted lighly forward and back, E6 side . So it needed to be flatten with sandpaper and so no problem. The second one was at the level of the Floyd, about locking device of the string , the shaft which articulates this part was misfiring, so the tuning was random. Some WD 40 to put inside and so no problem.

This was a phenomenal video and explanation. Over the years, I've used hard tails, and recently purchased a Schecter Sun Valley with a Flyod Rose. This video really helped me gain a better understanding of some of the common issues people come across - VERY helpful! Thank you!! You wouldn't happen to have a video on how to adjust the action of your strings on a Flyod would you? I see there are 2 allen screws that you can use to adjust the height of the actual Floyd itself (which then lowers/raises the strings), but I've read that this can potentially crack the plate? Thanks for the help!
@anthonysthellhammerg43882 жыл бұрын
Ooo crap on a stick , what plate are you referring too cause i just changed string gauge or actually string brands and some of the strings are a little of a heavier gauge but it’s enough to where im going to have to intonate and play with the truss rod a bit ,but i dont need to be breaking more than im fixing any info would be greatly appreciated as im very new to a flouting bridge, 🙏 thank you

Not to be picky, but I've been using the same FR for 33 years now, it looks like the nut you have installed is the wrong size, big gap on the edges. Also it's good to slightly rotate your mounting screws, where the base plate knife edge pivots on once in a while to keep it from wearing a grove in the metal.

Thank you. This is great advice and down right biblical. I have saved the video for future reference. You might have just saved my sanity.
